Tunning I regret

Tunning I regret

Postby Giza [OP] » Feb 21 2016, 1:36am

I "had/have" a 2009 Silverado extended cab 1500 Z-71 with the 5.3 flex fuel engine, 4 speed automatic and LTZ package, basically has everything on it except the touch screen, sun roof, sliding rear window, and bigger engine and transmission. I got the thing back in my sophomore year of highschool out of a deal with working for my father. Over the next three years I did stuff like leveling kit, bigger tires and rims, CAI (injen), Straight piped exhaust (metal mulisha/gibson), window tint, subwoofers, high output headlights, led tailgate cap. I don't really regret much of that. What I do regret is having a bully dog triple GT tuner installed. The thing worked fine for the first 2 years. After that I got an update for it which somehow caused the system to glitch up while tunning my pickup. It somehow offset the timing in my pickup to such an extent that the offset mixed with my "slightly" aggressive driving style caused me to bust two pistons, tear up the transmission, wreck the spider gears, and a host of other smaller issues. Needless to say I got the thing back up and fully running except for the tuning. When the system glitched I lost my stock tuning file for the pickup so now its stuck in a super high octane mode. Its driveable but its a pain at times. My younger sister now drives the thing while I bought an older Duramax which I am actually quite delicate with.

The reason I'm explaining all this is because I don't know a whole lot about tuning diesel or gas burners. Is there a way I can buy a flash scan tool on amazon and download my trucks correct programming from somewhere using its VIN number and reflash my system to stock? Or do I have to take it to a dealer to get it done?

Interesting story. I have not seen many Tuning horror stories, so I will be following this one.
Bump.

you need to take the truck to your dealer and get the ECM/TCM modules flashed back to factory GM stock programming man.. who knows what the hell that tool changed and sounds like it really screwed things up.. so you definitely have to get it back to factory stock programming via your dealer before doing anything else on it..

So, what does the OP have to look forward to when he gets the invoice?

So there isn't anywhere on the internet I could find the stock ECU file for my pickup?

no idea man.. dealers charge whatever they want.. every dealer has their own shop labor/time costs... so no idea.. all depends on what the shop rates are ... it takes about 20 minutes to do it...
