2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 fuel pump

Postby Joshua Smith [OP] » Dec 03 2019, 12:05am

Hey there, so I bought a 2002 chevy silverado 2500 a couple months back and it was running fine til a couple days ago and the fuel pump died on me. To my knowledge the whole truck is stock, and the prices for a new fuel pump in my town was the same price as a high performance fuel pump online, so I purchased the higher flow one online and didn't realize it might affect my truck and make it run rich. I believe the pump in my truck right now is 20 lph and this new one I bought is 190lph. I tried looking online seeing if just the fuel pump could cause it to run rich, but I haven't had any luck. I've gotten advice from coworkers saying it wouldn't because I have stock fuel injectors and there is probably a regulator somewhere that won't pump too much fuel in the mixture. I was just curious before I put this new one in, if I'm going to have problems having it make my truck run rich or not.

The fuel regulator is on the fuel rail, driver's side you will see where the fuel lines (feed and return) come up from behind the engine and plug into the rail. There is a round piece on the fuel rail with a clip over it, and it should have a small vacuum hose coming off, that is the regulator. You may have to take off the intake manifold cover to see it.

If you do put in to strong of a pump it will overrun the regulator and you will have to high of PSI. I'm not sure if that will overpower it or not. The most common upgrades I read about are the 255lph and 400lph pumps when people are building up their engines. 190lph is on the lower side of aftermarket "high flow" so it may work ok. Doing a quick google search I found one person who said stock pump was 155lph but that may not be correct, just throwing that in here for consideration.
