Lose of towing power

Postby AJK [OP] » May 23 2020, 8:58pm

History, I purchased it new for hauling my boat. So I know when something is not functioning correctly. Took it to my local Chevy dealer for diff, xfer case fluid change.
Since then it will not pull up any hills. Specifically prior to them, I would set the Cruise control and never did it slow down and had to down shift so hard.
I can only report i have to use more throtle and no overdrive.
Been back to two different dealers. Bozos charge me $ 240 to tell they couldn't find any codes or issues.
Yes I told service no codes.
So I'm reaching out to you. I can't believe my 2500hd is so rare, that no one has not had the same issue and have to know the repair.
Please help.
Yes stock, no tunes, original tires. All schedule dealer maintenance performed, stored in doors all it's life.

I would check:
-transmission, transfer case and diff fluid levels
-check brakes to see if they are draggiing
-lift up the rear wheels and see how difficult it is to spin them(with the trans in park, spinning one wheel one way, the other wheel will spin the other way).

My first thought is they used the wrong fluid. If you have detailed receipt from the shop see if it lists what they say they put in it.
Even if that info is correct, I would still want to changed the trans fluid and filter, differential fluid and transfer case fluid again. just to be sure.

Also check all the brakes for dragging as was said above. Disassemble, clean (wire brush) and lube all the proper points with the proper lube.

Good luck with figuring out the issue and please let us know what you find for the solution.

Could be fuel problem, clogged filter maybe.

Did they do a computer update? Sounds like something changed drastically while it was in there.

Transmission fluid looked good, not at all sure what brand or type.
All wheels turn freely.
Started the module plucking insanity. Change Mass air flow sensor. No change.
As for computer flashing how does one go about getting this done?
I'm old school, if it's a fuel filter would it not run out of gas when in wot and 92 mph?

How many miles? Maybe your catalytic converters are getting plugged and it hasn't thrown a code yet (or if it even would). Although that's not really related to your services done, which you would expect something had been done or done wrong to cause it right afterward.

If it was a clogged fuel filter or fuel pump weak, it would probably be pinging (running lean) at WOT or high loads, and then the computer will compensate for that and knock down the power.

Did dealer even take it for a drive with a scanner connected to check the engine vitals?

If its the truck in your profile info i would start by doing a compression check on the engine. It may just be getting old and tired..

No photo. Truck has 83k on it. IMHO just getting broke in. Truly mint condition.
Talking it to certified transmission for suggested fluid type check.

Still no luck with it. Maybe they did update something they shouldn't have. I'd think with the wrong fluids in it that something would be building heat, then pressure and some seals would be coming out. Or it would blow out a vent, maybe smell something after driving it.
