My 04 2500hd seems to have this weird fuel mileage issue, I drive 45 min one way to work each day. I use 1\4 tank going to work and 1\8 coming home. I drive the same way to and from work.
I am totally lost as to why.

Arw you going by the gauge, or starting with a full tank when you leave the house, then filling up when you get to work, then filling up again when you get home to check the gauge for accuracy?
Could be the sender in the tank or the gauge.

Good question, I am going by the gauge (for now only had the truck a short time).
I understand the gauge is not always accurate. The only diffrence is ambient air temp.

Are you going more uphill to work? Is there more traffic on one of the trips?

...there's also prevailing winds... I can tell in my '04 Sierra when I'm driving with the wind or against it.

To answer both questions, if anything its more uphill on the way home(where I use less gas) than on the way to work.
The 45min drive is all highway driving so no real traffic issues that could affect it.

Every GM vehicle I've ever owned (going back to the '60s), the gas gauge moves very slowly from Full down to 3/4 then moves more quickly from 3/4 to 1/4 and fastest from 1/4 to E.

I would claim this as the reason, except, I am guaging by the same spot all the time. 1\2 tank when I leave for work then end at 1\4 at work back to 1\2 leaving work, 3\8 when I get home.
