I've got a recently swapped 2009 1500. L96 6.0, cam, intake, exhaust, tune.

Everyone with a 6 liter on the internet claims a 6 second zero to sixty time. Magazines claim that 6 liter equipped Chevys like the Tahoe and Avalanche can tick off 0-60 in 7 seconds.

I find all of this a little difficult to believe. The best I can manage is 9.5 seconds. I estimate that I should be making about 350 HP at the crank at 5000 feet, or 95ish HP over the stock 5.3 LMG that's sitting in my garage. Previously, all three of our 1500 5.3s at work could manage nothing better than 11 - 11.5 seconds to 60.

Basically, if you have a 6.0 anything in any GMT800 or GMT900 chassis, will you please go find a country round, do 3 x 0-60 pulls, and report back?

Don't care what gears, what cab, what year, what frame, what mods (unless your forced or on the bottle or something)

I just want to know if something is seriously wrong with this engine.

Please, if you're at sea level, your numbers won't help. There is no direct correlation, no math that can be applied, there is simply no caparison. You have 14.7lbs of air, we have 12.

Go throw it on a dyno. Perhaps your tune is bad

Assuming after all that work you did a mail in tune, since you “estimate” it’s hp

What gears/tires are you running?

Keep in mind that your truck likely weighs a bit more than a Tahoe or Avalanche, too.

Black Bear tune, been in twice now. I will probably put it on a dyno just to confirm my estimate.

Tires are stock size, 265/70r17. I've forgotten the gear ratio, it's in the high 3s, the only lower ratio is a 4.10 or something similar. This also seems odd since I can do nearly 50 in 1st gear, but maybe long transmission gears are normal in trucks, I'm used to cars with manuals that do 30 in 1st.

Come on there Colorado people. I just went outside and threw a tennis ball and it bounced off of 11 Silverados before it hit the ground, they're literally everywhere out here. None of you are on this forum?

You do realize its a truck, with truck running gear,truck paint,truck tires, truck wheels, It's Truck Heavy!
Go buy a Z06 Corvette if you want a race motor.
You know I did read the specs of the 6.0 and the 0-60 ETA didn't phase me. I bought it to do truck stuff!
Not going to go out and try and blow it up.

Yes, I realize it's a truck. It's not going to outrun my BMW, my Ducati, my turbo Subaru, my F-150, or even my Hyundai Azera. As a matter of fact, my 69 beetle is the only thing I own that it'll outrun... That's not my expectation.

What I want to know is why the car rags say the SUVs with more glass and more doors and a hatch and more roof with the same motor are 2.5 seconds faster than my truck (which makes more power) to 60.

I know I'm slower at altitude, which is why I'd like to know what other 6.0 owners are seeing that live up here with me.

I'm getting 13.26 MPG on average and estimate that I've picked up 100 HP over the stock motor and I want to know if that equates to only a 1.5 to 2 second gain on a 60 run.

I might dyno it, that's a day off work and a hundred bucks, but it still won't tell me what other, similar trucks are doing.

I'm not kidding about all the Silverados out here. Guy on the corner has one, guy next door has one. Guy other next door has one. Guy across the street has one. 2 guys at work have them. My office still has one. My brother has one. You have one. Everyone in this thread has one. Everyone on this forum has one.

I really just need a couple people that own 6 liter trucks at 5000 feet to chime in, I'm all set with the rest of the chiming.

a dyno will verify your tune and mods are correct. Or that the engine is healthy. Just because you threw money at it doesn’t mean it was good money. You could have actually lost power..


It could also be your torque management. I know my 08 with a 4speed was a dog off the line.

And sure you can see 5 silverados around you. But they won’t have the same configuration.

Guy i work with has an SS Silverado, headers, exhaust, intake, Black Bear, 4.10.
I bet he runs mid-low 6 sec. But we're also at 900ft elv.
