the 4L60E is the Electronic version of the 700R4... so technically you can run a transmission from the 1/2 tons going back to the late 80s.

Now, not being a smartass, the 4L60E started with the 1996? (might have been 1995) trucks and vans. If I were to try replacing the 4L60E in my 2005 though I would stick with the 1999 to 2007Classic 1/2 ton trucks. That way it's a sure bet everything will bolt over without any issues.

On a side note the 4L65E is the SAME transmission with some beefier things inside. If you can find one from a Silverado SS, Denali or Escalade it'll bolt right in as well. I believe the 4L70E is also a bolt in. but I know nothing of the 4l70E beyond its existence.

 

Just wanted to make sure. Cash is tight so cant do a rebuild ($2500+ around here), so looking to grab a used one to get by for now. Looking at one from an 04 denali 2wd. Hoping its pretty much plug n play.

04 Denali should have the 4l65e. I don't think they're 2wd though. My current understanding is the Denalis are all AWD. Not that the tail cones can't be swapped though.

Wrong transmission. My apologies. I have been looking at LOTS for sale. This is from an 04 Envoy. 4l60e. Should bolt in, correct?

 

Do you have access to the Envoy? From the sounds of it you are browsing Craigslist or the like. The 2003 to 2009 Envoys had the 4L60E so you should be good.

 

Its local, but yes got it off CL. The boneyards here are usually picked clean for GMs.

 

If you can ask the owner to snap you a photo of the RPO sticker in the glove box it should have a three digit code to tell you the transmission model. the 4L60E you want is M30.
