So, I'm driving home, no engine noises, nothing abnormal, engine quits while coasting at 30 MPH down a small hill. I'm figuring after a few tries to start, (it sounded like it might) that the fuel filter is plugged. Who knew there is not a fuel filter on this truck?!?! Anyway, put a code reader on it, cam position sensor. Replaced that (somewhat of a nightmare without taking 1/2 of everything off front of engine). No change whatsoever. Still sounds like it wants to start, but won't. 59psi fuel pressure and good spark. Talk to Chevrolet, under warranty (barely), have taken on rollback to dealer shop. Second day they have it they say the timing chain is broke. Third day I asked if it was an interference engine, answer is no. That was 3 weeks ago. Went in and voiced my displeasure that my truck hasn't moved from behind the garage in three weeks. Next day, yesterday, service manager calls me and says they have it in shop and they called Chevrolet (they are an established Chevrolet dealer) and found out it is an interference engine, and I will have to have a new engine. Said they are talking to adjuster who doesn't seem to get it, wants pics but won't authorize disassembly to get said pics. I checked this morning, truck still hasn't moved. Anyway (venting?) does anyone know if this is common in these trucks, or if this IS and interference engine?
