2015 Silverado peeling paint

I have a 2015 Silverado and I’ve started to experience some peeling paint in a couple of areas. The worst is just above the windshield which is now about 6” - 8” in diameter. The second area is on the door frame of the rear passenger door. Talked to a local body shop and they won’t touch it. He suggested I contact the local dealership. Wish me luck! I think I’m gonna need it!

Hopefully it is a known issue by the GM dealer. It will just cost you time to contact them. If lucky, they'll fix it under a non-safety recall program. Good luck. The dealer body shop should know the most about it.

dealer wont do anything about it.. i have fixed several, got one in the shop now.
You have to strip to factory primer from approx middle of truck all the way around up.
Then prime, block, and then paint.
It's a process, and not cheap.

Common problem. Most common with white paint. The paints are water based, and they suck.

The dealer will tell you to pound sand. Nine year old truck....
And....unless you're the original owner and can really prove there's been no work done, they'll really tell you to pound sand.
Don't waste your time. Find a reputable body shop/paint specialist and have it repaired.

I wonder why the local body shop won't touch it? It's just a paint job. Maybe they figure you won't like the price, but other than that...what's the big deal with repainting.

It will be pricy, even Maaco or other cheap paint places will still charge $4k or so at least, I think.

I just had my hood painted...it was $1100. And that was the cheapest unless I rattle canned it.

because its pure labor. I wouldn’t touch it for anything less than $10k

@2003Silverado No body shops are painting anymore.
all body shops are painting, they just don’t like doing 'custom' work - that peeling paint is on the edge of custom being it needs serious labor time to strip it.
Ah, I did not realize that. I thought a body shop still did or simply handed it out to a 3rd party and collected a cut.
Some do. Hell i do that when and where i can. but it’s hard to warranty sublet jobs.
I got quote of $802.xx to paint the hood
That's actually cheap. I'd be more in the $1500 range. BUT, you can't just paint the hood, it has to be blended into the fenders on nearly every paint job.

I have a crew cab 2007 in the shop now, it's bill for paint is nearly $18k

Most poeple don't want to pay that type of money. $800 is deemed crazy for a hood paint job. Half of that price is materials. To paint a hood is about 5 hours of labor. $125 an hour is $625 on its own..

Unfortunate folks, it’s not 1982 any more.

At least around here, body shops don't want any type of cash business. They are simply not interested. All they care about is insurance work.

I have a friend in the body shop/custom paint and body business. Known him for about 30 years. The business was originally his grandfather's and it's been handed down to him. We worked together when we both worked for a military aircraft modifier and he was an aircraft painter. He loves cash.....but the downside is, unless he knows you he won't do "pieces or individual parts." He likes doing it all, including custom paint jobs.
Here's the last thing he did for me.... (the bumper.)

Before I even clicked to see the post, I knew 100% we'd be talking about a white truck. As been mentioned, nothing new for a white GM truck and the dealer will not do anything for you. Other than maybe collect money if you want their shop repaint it for you.

I got quote of $802.xx to paint the hood on my wife's 2017 Suburban from Maaco. Still haven't done it as I think it's damn lot of money... She's kind of getting antsy about it needing paint, though, so might have to bite the bullet soon... 🤦‍♂️

Looks like Maaco is charging quite a bit less per hour than you are, then. And the quote is for what ever their best quality/warranty job is.

Not sure why they actually have insurance paying since they’re not since we’re only talking about fixing failed GM clear coat and paint.

Their labor cost appears low...

Yeah, this seems to be the attitude I am getting. I wanted some painting and rust repair done on my '03 1500, and local body shops are simply NOT interested. They won't touch it, even after I tell them that I am not the least bit fussy, it doesn't have to be flawless paintwork.

Anyhoo... back to the original topic...

@pmac504 Let us know what the dealer says and/or what you decide to do.

GMs had peeling paint since the early 90s, not one thing will be done about it.
How long should paint last anyways?
How long should a truck last?
It's all relative in the end

Same thing happening to my 2015 Silverado 1500 Metallic Blue. Took the dealer over 100 days of back and forth to say nothing they can do even though the documents they gave me clearly states factory issues need to be elevated to GM #MartinChevrolet SMH
