Dealer called me back turns out its a mechanical misfire and to diagnose the problem they need a few hours to take the valve cover off and check out the problem.
So am I looking at an AFM lifter failure?
Anyone have one of these fixed ? How much will it cost me ?
Side note there replacing my throttle body for free.

A mechanical misfire is , obviously, caused by a damaged/inoperative mechanical part. It could be a bad valve spring, lifter or pushrod. I'd just wait to see what the dealer says is wrong. You may get lucky and it's not that bad or a repair.

Crossing my fingers and hoping it's not too bad for you man!

Dealership called me back. Turns out they found cylinder 4 intake lifter stops working after 20 seconds of running. They say it is collapsing. Decided Since I'm only 18 and no where close to a mechanic instead of me making it worse I'm letting the dealership pull it apart. The service guy is very nice though. So its getting close to 10 hours at shop rate.
I'm going to ask if I can see the bad parts on my truck.
Thanks guys for all your advice.

Dang hate to hear. All other cylinders that were missing tessted good?
They managed to clear the codes for all other cylinders except for 4 kept coming back on.

This AFM seems like it creates a lot of problems. Wish I could just get rid of it, after all this I'm going to get it tuned out or something. Dealer wont do AFM delete kit so if it lasts me another 190k after all this work ill be happy cause ill probably sell it before then.

Sry for your troubles, this will unfortunately not be a cheap fix, you have to pull the head off to change a AFM lifter, unlike conventional lifter's there is just not enough clearance to slide a AFM lifter out, You bill will depend on a few thing's and how you approach your repair, will you be replacing all of the lifter's ? or will you only be doing # 4 ??, Hopefully you won't need a cam also but that can't be determined until they get into it, prepare yourself

I agree with the guys above me. i would tune out the AFM. we rebuilt my dads truck and less than 1000 miles later he dropped another lifter. we rebuilt it again, and it dropped the exact same lifter again. after we tuned out the AFM it works great.

My buddies truck just did the exact same thing. lost number 8, now i get to replace number 4. we will be tuning out AFM so we dont have to do it again.

Ahhh...I recommend deleting it and I know UPSETATGM does aswell. I'm cucurious as to how my truck does in the long run. AFM is deleted but still has AFM lifters.
With your truck now running in 8 all the time i think you will be ok as long as you can get a handle on your oil consumption, was curious did you add a catch can to your's ??? For an AFM lifter to activate the motor has to reduce oil pressure, now that it can't your lifter's will stay pressurized, although i don't have much faith in an AFM lifter period, i believe the survival rate is much increased by the delete, this is just one reason why i am keeping mine in M5 until i get mine deleted, the computer will not activate the AFM unless it's in 6th gear in my case

Dealer called me with worst case.
Turns out more than one lifter failed gouging the crank.
That is not the worst part about it. Apparently something went out of line and gouged the cylinder walls. Apparently they cant do anything about it. Its deep enough to feel it with your finger apparently 1.5 mm deep?
Do not know what I'm going to do.
Its a 2009 gmc sierra RWD extended cab SLE. Is it worth a new engine ? Or should I try to get as much as i can for it as is? Buy a new truck?
Dealer said for a trade if it was working good condition they would give me $7500 but a new motor cost that too.

Sry to hear you have a complete engine failure, i know how you are feeling right now and it's not a place i want anyone to be in. You certainly have some thinking too do. But as you know i just threw all this myself and in my case i decided on the new engine, At the time i thought gee i sure am going to take a hit if i trade my dead engine truck off or try to sell it in that condition, i thought it over trying to decided if i would even stay with GM, i am not a ford guy and certainly not a dodge one either, I thought well if i upgraded on something newer how long will it be before i started having trouble with it, even though it would have a warranty i have no faith in GM's warranty at all. I didn't even consider a used engine simply because i knew it would be a waste of money with the AFM engine', so i bite the bullet and bought a new crate motor, with 0 miles i am am now in control of how it's maintained, My truck cosmetically is in awesome condition, interior and exterior, which also weighed in on my decision, I promised my wife that when i bought my truck it would be my last one, now i have to keep that promise, Good luck with what ever decision you arrive at, it's not easy but i am sure it will be the right one for you what ever you decide.
