Hey guys. I'm looking for some help. I'm trying to pick out a bug guard for my truck. The hood has a lot of chips I'm trying to cover up with a bug guard but I'm having a very hard time picking one out because there are hardly any good pictures of what they look like on the actual truck. If you guys could post some pictures of you bug guards on your cateyes and why you prefer the one you got over the others I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you to anyone that helps in advance

I dont like the look of them at all. I would fix all the chips and have someone install the clear shield to protect it. Just my opinion though. If you like them, I dont have any suggestions...lol.

Both my 00 and a buddies02 had, I say had, the swept raised lip on the back type hood protectors. Both of us experienced a odd flapping kinda noise from the windshield area we could never pin point. Like plastic flapping around somewhere in the pillars or??. Removed them and the noise stopped. Weird, just weird.

It’s the vertical windshield mouldings catching the turbulence from the deflector. A simple fix that I did was run a bead of clear silicone under the moulding. Both were on my 09 and 13. The 02 I had did not make any noise but that may have been the type of deflector.

The WeatherTech deflectors are the best and look awesome too!

Too many edits....The AG Gods don't like that kinda shit... So I get to post whore like Neil. Anywho....I forgot to say that I like the look of your rc truck. Back to personal preference, I think you need to level it out, but that's just my opinion. I hope my wordy post help you with your decision. And yes, I think Weather Tech makes some nice things but I also think their prices are a little high on some things. I have AVS which I ordered through a supplier that is not associated with this site anymore. At least I don't think they are and I can't remember the name of it. However, they did give me a 40% off on my first order which was for the deflector, rain guards and a K&N metal tube CAI....yeah, 40% off was nice!

Good luck making your decision.

Have an AVS on my 09 and saved a lot of chips and didnt hate the look myself. It did recently break and I took it off. I thought I would put another on but leaning towards DIY clear bra instead maybe

A clear bra will not prevent stone chips...been there...done that on >10 vehicles in the last 15 years. Get another hood deflector...you will be far happier and so will your wallet.

I only install top of the line Xpel on all my cars and trucks. If a rock hits your PPF, it can penetrate it and leave a mark on your hood/bumper. Based on the size of the stone/rock, it can even tear the PPF. Does it help? Yes. Will it prevent hood damage? No!

I have the AVS on my ZR2. I am very happy with it and looks great too!

Looks good...I'm just not crazy about sticking anything to my paint so I avoid accessories like this one.

Before you do this, check your fuel economy- I had a deflector on a '90 Silverado and between that and the tailgate being up with no cover, my highway economy was terrible. I drove it home from PHX and saw the gas gauge dropping like a rock, so I opened the tailgate and removed the deflector within 45 minutes of hitting the road. It never went back on.

Personally, I would put the clear chip guard on it, like the tape that comes from the factory, ahead of the rear wheel wells. If you want it to stand out, vinyl wrap isn't difficult to use, doesn't have an extremely tacky adhesive and it can be bought online.

Use the knifeless tape for establishing the edges-

Sorry, but I am not buying this at all. A bug deflector will have ZERO impact on your mileage. They are aerodynamic regardless as to whether they 3M tape to the hood or sit a 1/2" off the hood. As for the tailgate, another bogus claim.

I just “easy” installed “Auto Ventshade [AVS] Bugflector II Hood Shield” on my 2016 1500 LTZ & did a 500 mi road trip with it. Performed flawlessly, no wind noise or vibration. I really like the look as well.

After looking at all the comments, I went and did some research. So far, everything indicates that the best brands are Weathertech, AVS, and EGR. I am leaning towards AVS because it does not use adhesive tape, which will allow me to remove it for cleaning. Now, I did not see any comments regarding dirt and/or debris getting trapped between the shield and the hood, and how they clean it or remove it, and that is what interested me, and leaning towards AVS. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have used Weathertech exclusively for years. Great quality and fit/finish. For my ZR2, WT doesn't make one so I bought the AVS. Great unit and easy to install as well. I think AVS is a bit less expensive and I would have no issues recommending them. The WT and the AVS do not use 3M tape...both are screw on units.

I put a chrome bug guard on my 2016 Silverado, with the black and chrome front end, it sure makes it even sharp looking.
I bought mine at a local auto trim supplier. It lays flat on the of the hood, I did it also to cover a small dent from a tree limb that fell on it.
Everyone says it make it sharp looking. I paid $100.00 that included installation.
