Cargo Box LED vs. Perimeter Bed Lighting

I am about to order a 2014 Silverado High Country with 6.2L and have a question about these 2 bed lighting options listed on the Build Your Own Vehicle web site (http://www.chevrolet.com/silverado-1500 ... x-zipcode=).

Can anybody tell me what the difference between these 2 are? The site allows you to select both.

Cargo Box LED Lighting ($60)
Perimeter Bed Lighting ($135)

I think the cargo bed lighting is under the rails. It is nice that its factory but from the pics i saw i was a little disappointed in the amount of lights but maybe you can mod a couple more up further which would be extra handy.

Where do you see the perimiter option, i cant find it.

Both of your links seem to reference Perimeter Bed Lighting. I don't see any description for "Cargo Box LED". Did I miss it? On person suggested that you order the truck with the Cargo Box LED lighting option but if you buy the kit from the parts department, it is called Perimeter Bed Lighting. What is confusing is the Perimeter Bed Lighting option is listed as one of the options on the web site (last page before final list is shown).

I am an electrical engineer so modding it is no problem. I just would like to order the correct option since I haven't it ordered yet.
On the Chevrolet web site, if you choose the Build & Price button, the Perimeter Bed Lighting option shows on the last last page before the final configuration is listed. The options I chose were Crew Cab, Standard bed, High Country trim with 4x4.

The lights are the same. The $60 dollar version is factory installed and called "Cargo Box LED". The $135 version is called "Perimeter Bed Lighting" and is installed by the dealer/customer. Bu the lights, harness, and hardware are identical. Just installed this on my '14.

Thank you! That is the definitive answer I was looking for. it is odd that they list the perimeter kit on the build your truck web site. Probably just an error by listing the same kit twice. It is on a page with other dealer installed accessories though.

Oh well, thanks for all your help guys. Hope to find a dealer who wants to give me good price on my black high country so I can order one.

Hey Silvery13,
How did the install of the Perimeter Bed Lighting go for you. I am looking to add lighting to the bed of my 14 High Country. Can you believe the truck didn't have them installed from the factory? Wondering if the factory lighting kit would be a cleaner install than some of the after market kits.

Install is easy. Remove the taillights so you can route the wire harness through to the box. Only thing that may throw you off if there are pre-attached rosebud clips on the harness to attach to holes in the body. Some of these holes already have other harnesses attached. My advice is run the harnesses to the lights and then work backward and install the clips.

Pics don't really do it justice. First two with flash, last two without.

Thanks! Where did you pull the power supply from?

Right in front of the rear bumper is a crossmember. On the drivers side there is a factory junction box for the rear lights. One of the connectors is a dummy. You remove it and plug the harness in. I will attach instructions in a few.

Thanks for the detailed replies. One last question. How do the lights turn on? With the switch for the cargo light on the back of the cab?

Thanks!

I should have gotten the Perimeter Bed Lighting. I upgraded the Cargo light to LED but with a bed cover it doesn't help..DOH! Will be wiring up some Bed lighting in the near future. LED bulbs were $10 and LED strips for the bed 2 for $20.

The 2014 1500 LED bed lamps are turned on with the cargo lamp on top of the cab with the switch mounted on the dash.

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna pull the trigger on the OEM bed lighting. The aftermarker stuff doesn't have a nice clean look after install. There are some options out there that will put out way more light than the OEM, but I don't plan on sun tanning in the bed of my truck anytime soon.

Agreed. The OEM kit is a bit pricy but its completely plug and play and throws enough light for me to see in the bed. Very pleased with it.

You seem to be suggesting that the Cargo Box LED lighting is not the same as the Perimeter bed lighting as suggested by a previous poster. Did you order Cargo Box LED lighting and get LED bulbs in the high mounted cab light? I am trying to order the truck with the lighting under the rails but based on previous posters, was under the impression these are the same.

What was your option code and what exactly came with your truck?

I read his post as to say he put LEDs in the cargo light mounted in the third brake light and added some LED strips inside the bed.

Thanks silvery for the directions on the install. I just picked up a set from Ebay for 35.00 and ten dollars shipping. heck of a deal compared to the cost from the dealer. the directions sure made the install faster and easier. :D

I also picked up factory bed tie downs on the cheap

sorry to resurrect an old chain, but has anybody looked into, or already figured out how to have the bed rail lights come on when you unlock the truck, or have them be a courtesy light when you pull the tailgate down?

Thanks
