Dash Went Crazy!

I have a 1999 Silverado with a 5.3L engine.

Today while driving down the road the dash gauges started going crazy. The speedometer and tach started jumping up and down and various warning lights came on and off. This happened for maybe 30 seconds and then all was fine. The truck seemed to run and drive fine during the incident.

Any thoughts on what happened? I bought the truck used about a month ago and still have 2 months left on a warranty.

Thanks,

Gary

First thing to do, in my opinion (since I don't like buying parts unless necessary), with any strange electrical problem is to:
Make sure the battery cables are as tight as can be to the battery.
Make sure there is no corrosion on the battery connections.
Disconnect the battery negative cable for a few seconds and reconnect tightly.
Make sure the cables are good.
Check the major grounds from the battery to the engine/body.
Check the battery.

If that does not fix the problem, it is time to get behind the dash and look at connectors. Problem is, intermittent electrical problems are the biggest PITA to troubleshoot. However, those older clusters, as noted by Chucktheduck, can be trouble.
