Engine hours counter

I noticed the other day when I was scrolling through my dash display options that my Engine Hours came up with less than 7 hours on it. It has been increasing this week, but I don't understand why it is so low. I remember it being a lot more (being a 2005). Is it possible that it reset? I didn't think that was an option, sorta like the trip meter.
Anyone else had this happen?

I wouldn't think that should be resettable - even with a battery change. Kinda defeats the purpose?

Anyway, just look at it this way - take your total number of miles and divide by engine hours to figure average speed. Bet you win that contest!

So I just did a search on this. The general concencus is that this just happens from time to time and nobody really has any good info on why. Some people blame poor battery connections or even disconnecting your battery but that doesn't always prove right. Some people report the hours cleared when they put a tune on their truck. Some people report they reset after filling up. There's multiple threads on it on other forums and absolutely NO good answers, lol. It's just notorious for resetting itself.

Sounds like it's an internal problem with the cluster. No you cannot reset it. Has the cluster been out lately to service some other item? Maybe an internal circuit board got flexed and cracked. It's not the end of the world if you choose to not get it fixed but I would watch the odometer REAL close. Most people don't even know the engine hours are available to be viewed and it could be easily explained to a potential new buyer if you later sold the vehicle.

I have 2 counters. One is resettable (shows hours, minutes, seconds). The other is not resettable, and shows hours and tenths.
They are accessed using different DIC buttons. The resettable one is in with the Average mileage, trip odometer, etc. The permanent one is inn with the tire pressure, etc.

I don't recall seeing 2 places to read the engine hours on mine, and I don't want to reset it anyway. Maybe something special you got with the AllTerrain pkg or the 2010 model year?

But I will definitely look again when I get home.

Hmmm, the battery is still original and cranked well for me all winter. I did have my tires rotated 2 weeks ago, hard to think that had anything to do with it. I don't get tunes? So that's not the case. I tried going into my OnStar account history to see if it was available online, so I might be able to tell when it happened, but I could'nt find it there. It is now around 10 hours, so Its would have to have been in the last week or so. Nobody else drives this truck but me, so I'm baffled too.........Just thought it was strange, and I guess I was right with that!

Correct. I cannot reset the engine hour meter. Of course, now I've learned that it may reset itself eventually. Sigh....
