Hi all, new to posting but avid reader and appreciate you all helping others out!
I bought a 2001 Silverado HD ls 8.1n Allison about 3 years ago with 131k and man I like this truck! 147k, problem free and have only done some minor maintenance. It's all stock, no mods, nothing fancy and it's really runs terrific for me.I've been studying here and reading up on potential issues but have had not much to add that might help someone else till now. Just today got my feet wet having to replace leaking engine oil cooler lines, went with the delco replacements and read up but not a ton of info out there for the 8.1. I degreased where the oil had been leaking for since i had bought the truck and before that, but had never been able to find the source, actually had thought the powersteering pump was leaking for some time but got to digging around more and realized it was one of the oil cooler lines at the crimp...
All went a lot smoother than anticipated angling the line ends past the differential, the upper radiator line I threaded through toward the rear and the lower I worked through the tight slot past the engine n differential going forward, other than the mess not too difficult a job. As advised by other posts I took out the battery to make room to work with the upper line on the radiator and also disconnected the front drive shaft at the front differential and to make extra room to feed lines through in the rear and work on where the lines connect by the oil filter, also took the filter out since it's due for an oil change anyway.
Question I have is what do I torque the front drive shaft u-joint clamps at? They didn't take much muscle to loosen so I don't want to over tighten.
Will have some fresh mobil one 05/30 in her tomorrow and looking to change out differential + rear and front end fluids as well as flushing the cooling system soon so suggestions are welcome.
Thanks n hope to add to the help you guys provide.
