Beautiful truck! I wouldn't say you're crazy since that's your preference. I've never had oil changes done that early but to each their own.

 

I did the first change on my 2025 Sierra Denali at about 1,000 miles and logged it on my CarFax. I will have the dealer do the 'first service' at 5,000 and then I will do them every 4,000 thereafter. Overkill? Maybe but I am OK with it...

 

Keeping fresh oil in the engine sure cant hurt anything especially if its free oil change.

On every fresh engine build i do, it gets a 500 mile oil change and another one at 1500 miles. Just so i can make sure everything inside the engine is happy and not making metal.
If there is a problem and you catch it in time then less harm is done.

 

I'd have looked at you the same way as the service adviser.

Most manufactures recommend 1st oil change when MM pops up nowadays. Some manufacturers like Honda and Toyota will have extra Molybdenum in the mix to help break-in. I don’t think any UOAs from GM engines has really shown much of anything beyond normal.

 

I went to dealer today for the first complimentary maintenance and oil change. The truck has 500 miles on it and the service advisor looked at me like I was crazy, frowning and asked why would I be doing that.
I told him that I planned on changing it again at 1000 miles and then every 5k/annually because that’s just what I wanted to do.
Am I crazy?

I drove fleet trucks, mostly suburbans for some 30 yrs and we could not change oil unless it was 5,000 miles since last oil change. They captured miles every time CC was used. Guess what? Never had an engine problem in 30 yrs and our GPS Survey trucks often idled all day long and went over 5 yrs and 1,000 of hrs in service and were not junk when replaced.

 

on my 6.6gas I did 2,500, 5,500 and I plan my next for 10k. Planning on every 5k or so. Based on nothing other than a personal feel good meter
