Front and Rear Anytime Camera?

Anyone wire up a front and rear anytime camera in their 19+ truck?

What did you use for a harness and switcher?

I want to set up a front camera with a 3 position momentary switch so I can turn my front and rear cameras on any time, but still have the rear camera come on when I put it in reverse.

Any tips, tricks, or links are appreciated.

And display the camera signals where?

Anyway, GM controls all their stuff through their computers, and don't allow upgrades once the truck has left the factory (other than in very limited circumstances, such as tow mirrors).

If you already have a factory reverse camera setup, you can probably rig up something so the video signal can be switched between front and back via external switch, but using an external switch to display the signal on the radio screen isn't going to be easy (as most likely it is told via a computer signal that the truck is in reverse, and not a separate reverse signal, and the switch happens inside the radio).

I expect if you want something like this to happen, you will want to install a separate screen and switches, and pull the reverse signal from somewhere to turn that camera on automatically in reverse.

there are so many 'dash cams' out there now you just need to google and pick your poison. Its about that simple.
If you remove your stock radio and replace it with aftermarket you can do more right through the factory set up and controls.
For example, my linkswell unit has 360 camera inputs you can look at at any time. I isually leave the rear camera on while driving as it nice to see the bugger you flick onto the tailgaters windshield splat.

The PYLE unit I got 3 years ago after a dingbat "T" boned my truck INSIDE MY DRIVEWAY!! I bought a complete unit with front and backup cameras. I installed the set in my 1999 silverado. The front camera records on a SD card when ever the key is turned on and shuts off 4 minutes after parked and key is off. The backup camera does not record. If I was smart I guess a rear facing recording camera could be added easily. Check out Crutchfield Also look a E-bay enter car stereo with backup camera, navigation, USB, and SD slots. I would suggest a second recording camera in the rear window or the third stop light/cargo light assembly. Find a two way radio shop that installs electronics in public service vehicles. Police cars, fire trucks, ambulance's, county road dept vehicles ect... They are experienced in installing wiring, cameras, antennas, and you may get one of them help you on a week end. Slip a 100.00 in their hand to help. I did the above for 40 years but now its too painful to crawl over under around to run the rear cabling through the frame to the camera mounted with the top license screws. I used the back up light power the power the back up camera at the right tail light assembly.

I just learned a day or two ago that the factory 'bed' camera can be turned on any time and will stay on until you switch it off.
When active it can be switched between two levels of zoom.

Like the rearview mirror camera, the bed view camera mounts in the CHMSL.

Bedview displays on the centre screen. As the name suggest, rearview mirror camera is displayed on the review mirror.

Most aftermarket HU will retain factory steering wheel controls, etc., with the correct harness adapters. Crutchfield is a great source for everything you'd need.
