GDS2 software question (scanner tool)

Hi Guys,

I purchased a package VXDIAG VCXNANO-PW160 off Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XD ... UTF8&psc=1

Everything is installed and working fine. When I start the GDS2 it licenses fine and reads the Vin number without any problems.

What it is not doing is finding my 2009 2500HD. I go to manually select the car and there is only one odd car name under 2009. The other years are better but still not many trucks and no Silverados.

Question:

Where do I get the updated listings of cars/trucks for 2009 and how is it installed?

Thanks

Larry,

What led you to this product? I can't tell much about what all it is capable of based on the amazon descriptions. Seems to be pretty much a code reader...and it expensive for that. Maybe I am missing something.

No clue on updating. Have you reached out to the company? Looks to be typical overseas stuff and support can be sketchy at best.

Here is a thread about some scan tools: Scan Tool or Diagnostic Tool you use - pros and cons

Hi Neal,

It is much more than a simple code reader, I already have them.

This is a hacked copy of the old Tech2 that the dealers all used from 1996 or so. It also has the GDS2 software that is used with the 09 and up vehicles. It allows access to all modules. Very powerful stuff indeed. But like anything with power, there is also a learning curve. I do 99% of all my own work so the $125 cost is less than one trip to the dealer. Payback is very fast!

Thank you for the link to the pros and cons but I read it and all of the ones here before ordering this product.

Oh ok. So that gives you full two way communication then? Seemed like in the description it said that programming was not available. Maybe that is just language issues with something else they were describing.

I take it a laptop is needed to run this?

Yes, it needs to be on a laptop.

Yes, it can do the way communication BUT you need to buy a license for the code in the module. I think a 72 hour license is $48. The dealers buy a yearly license.

Still far less than the cost of the dealer, especially if you can reprogram the VIN# into a junkyard part. This will be on the far end of the learning curve for me.

The GDS2 software only works on 13 up GM cars and SUV's the tech 2 software is still used on all the trucks up to 13. We have both softwares for work and not sure how that specific device is setup as to whether or not you can select the GDS2 portion or the tech 2 portion. BUt if your truck is an 09 you need to figure out how to use either Tech2 WIN or the tech2 portion.

HHmmmm

Just can't believe what they say anymore.

The GDS2 does have listings from 2009 to 2020 with many cars but few trucks and no Silverados. I did select a newer Trailblazer last night and was able to connect and see all of the modules. Obviously did not do anything but just looked around. I still have not heard back from the seller yet. With everything going on I can understand.

My only real need at this time is I have a "SERVICE AIRBAG" message on the display. The truck was hit in the back. No airbags deployed but both seat belts did. I got them back from the repair shop and will install them this weekend. I am hoping the service airbag message will go off, but probably will not.

The GDS2 and the Tech2 Win are two separate software packages. The Tech2 is an exact copy of the handheld device I played with a few times years ago, poor graphic display and all. I will start reading the Tech2 manual and learning it.

Thank You for your input it was very helpful!

What do you mean about the seatbelts? Is there some active mechanism on them? I thought they were just the standard type that lock up with an internal tumbler cam in a crash but are fine afterward.

OK....well just found this. https://www.safetyrestore.com/seat-belt ... ident.html I was unaware they had that on there if on our gmt900 trucks.

If the seat belts deployed you will also most likely have a current airbag fault saying deployment commanded, this fault will need to be cleared using the tech 2 and on a truck that old you may even need to send the airbag module out to get what they call "reset" as well, not sure if you will be able to clear it on that year truck. I know if it was a 14 or newer and just the seat belts deploy then once the seat belts are replaced you can get away with just clearing the codes and do not need to replace the airbag control module.
