GMC emblem removal

Hi, I'm trying to black out my GMC logo on the front of my 2013 GMC sierra, but I can't seem to find any info on how to remove it for my year of truck. It appears that the emblem is screwed in with some size of torx screws, there are 3-4 of these on the back of the emblem. Also everywhere I've looked it simply says to push it out once you find the pins holding it in but I don't believe there are pins holding it in. I could be extremely wrong but help is much appreciated.

It's not too difficult. Take the top radiator shroud off for access behind the grill. There are two retaining clips (on the back of "G" and the "C") that you can back off with an 11mm socket. Then there are seven plastic clips where you can take a small regular screwdriver and press down the center clip while pulling that part of the emblem away from the front of the grill with a little pressure,it will come right off.

Thanks for you help, but unfortunately this didn't work as my emblem doesn't have these same back off points instead there are 7 torx screw heads that are viewable from the back of the emblem. I have currently been able to get 3 off, but the other 4 I'm unable to get with my tool set. I'm not sure what i'll do about this but i hope to find a solution soon. Also there do appear to be some tabs but I only spot 2 and they are a lot smaller than what you have a picture of. Again thanks for the effort.

Sorry mgupster, It's weird because your truck is only a year newer than mine and they already changed how they attach the emblem to the grill. Seems like the only things that remained the same is of course the style of the GMC and that it is a pain in the butt to get it off. Well anyway I still wish you luck with the removal.

Use a small flat screwdriver to press against the two clips on the center portion of the bowtie one at a time.

I was cursed with a set of thin forearms and was able to reach the back of the bowtie by reaching though the hood latch opening.

Looks like you figured it out before I got this posted. Oh well, I'll leave it for future reference.

To the original poster, did your truck have a chrome grill? If so this is most likely the reason yours was different. I too have a 2013, and mine came with a chrome grill and it had a different GMC logo than the black grills. I know this because I ended up buying a black grill because I didn't want so much chrome on a white truck. I like what you did with the logo though, that's what I plan on doing to mine.

I swapped out to a chrome grille from a black one and I had already painted my GMC emblem black (over the red) and I put it on the new chrome grille. Its exactly the same emblem. If you have a chrome grille, those torx screws you are seeing is what holds the chrome 'overlay" bars onto the grille and have nothing to do with the emblem.
