My 99 Sierra extended cab clamshell closed today and now won't open. You can pull the handle out and it feels like it pulls on something, but neither the top nor bottom latch comes open. What kind of hell on Earth am I in for?

Probably a not fun one. Start by rolling the window down and removing the outer weatherstrip. This allows a pretty good view down in the cavity to see what is going on.
This happened on my '00 Silverado. I was able to fold-up the lower seat and pull back the door panel enough to get my hand in there to pull on the rods. The little plastic clips that hold the rods in place were broken.
Quick update, I was able to pull the door card back enough to use a pick to open the top latch and open the door. The clip for the upper rod was broken. $6 at Advance and I'm back in action. Thanks y'all!
