I've looked everywhere and I can not find anything on this.

Has anybody relocated their steering wheel controls. I am going with a aftermarket steering wheel, but I need my steering wheels controls, not so much radio controls but more mileage, DTE button..

Thanks in advance for any info.

I've made a plan for doing it for my stock GMT900 steering wheel, mainly because I hate how the cruise control buttons are positioned.

The buttons are multiplexed together, so multiple switches are connected to a pair of wires to cut down on the cost of the clock spring.

Probably your best bet is to 3d print a socket for the existing switches, that attaches to your new steering wheel, or for more complexity, but possibly better button positioning, 3d print the switches over custom circuit boards (for the microswitches and resistors).

Ive been Watching videos to replace the wheel, I see where the switches unplug , if I follow that into the steering column, would I be able to make a bezel and locate them somewhere else?

It depends on the steering wheel, how it matches up with the clockspring, and what you are able to make.

If you've designed stuff before to 3d print, you probably can figure something out, but if you haven't it's a steep learning curve, both designed stuff and then getting into a program to print.

What year?

On my 2006 each of the audio switches on the steering wheel give a different resistance value when pushed so there's only 2 wires. The BCM converts the ohm value to the correct signal to the radio.

To relocate, wire the switches together and connect them to the BCM. You should be able to figure out how they are wired by unplugging the switches and BCM and use a continuity tester.

I recently hooked up the SWC directly to an aftermarket radio without any adapter or interface and it was only a ground and signal wire.

Hey all, hopefully someone can help.. so this where I'm at, replacing steering wheel, but I need to keep the steering wheel controls for my digital read outs.. I have everything apart..

If I were to cut the wires going into the clock spring, then cut the connector coming out of the clock spring , and rewire them back together ...will it work ? See pics attached

I really don't want to take the.clock spring off and take it apart and disconnect the wires , because honestly don't know how the clock spring works and don't want to ruin it ..any input is appreciated..thanks

You're not providing enough information unless I missed something.
Do you plan to take the clockspring out and have it external to the column?
I'm confused. why are you cutting the clockspring wires if you're not removing it?
Are you leaving the clockspring unplugged?
