Actually I think it is. Some guy figured out how to put the hood on a truck it wasn't designed for which is kinda cool.

OP: the entire hood will need to be replaced with a 2500/3500 HD hood unless a lot of custom body work would need to be done.

Asking if the HD hood can be put on the 1500 was part of my original question.

I'd be curious if the HD hood can be bolted on to a 1500 without modifying anything?

 

The grille may be a little different from the 1500 to the HD trucks.

 

I wasn't going to be doing anything to the grill... the grill is on the front of the truck

I'm asking about the hood. (aka "bonnet" to them cats in England)

The 2500 / 3500 hood appear to be just like the 1500 hoods.

 

The HD hood may interfere with the 1500 grille. I know on the older trucks the grille is different on the HD trucks than the 1500 trucks.

 

Mine is a 2011 Silverado and the hoods from 07-13 2500 / 3500 trucks looks the same as the 1500

So, maybe someone that has done this will come along and answer the question as to whether the hoods are interchangeable or not.

I'm not going to go out and buy a good used hood in my truck's color to experiment cause I can't get a refund if it didn't workout.

Another option would be to find someone locally that has a 2500 / 3500 truck in my year range and go compare the two and take some measurements.

 

It will fit the hinges and line up to the fenders as the fenders are the same. However there’s a good chance it will not line up correctly to the 2500/3500 rad support as they are different. Height and placement of the hood latch may be an issue too. Unless someone answers, you may have to look for one and measure.

Or, maybe I can get the plastic pieces and make them flat on the bottom and stick 'em on my existing hood with adhesive.

Btw that 88-98 HD hood is done by skinning the HD hood and welding it to the 88-98 hood. You can put the HD hood on a 1500 no problem, but I do believe that you need the grille. I cannot remember.

 

I know it's an older post, but I have a 2013 Silverado 1500 WT. I bought a hood at the local pick a part for $75 off a 2011 2500HD and it fits perfectly. I had to adjust the hinges to get the gaps right. It looks factory.
