Can you unbolt the latch and add a large flat washer or two and reinstall???

Don't try to slam it shut after you do this ^^^^................just drop and try to just latch it.

Does it rattle going down the road???

 

A bit. Like I said i can hit it with my fist and hear it. I can also push it down slightly when locked.

No way to adjust the "bumpers" up a bit???

If it's loose that way..............you'd need to move the latch down.............not up like I typed in my prior post. Don't know if you can do that. Thicker bumpers??

 

I tried adjusting the corner bumpers up last night. I had it to the point where the hood was higher than the fender by a bit and it still rattled. So that is why I am assuming the center is the loose point. Not sure how to move the latch. Is there an instruction online anywhere for moving a latch?

 

If the latch on your 12 looks like my 13 then I don't think it is adjustable.

Hood latch

It looks like there's an alignment notch on each side of it that pretty well sets it in place.

 

Oh no. That may explain why the Haines manual does not have a procedure.

 

Boy this is frustrating. One of those it should not be so hard tasks. I just can't get it dialled in.

 

I have that latch on mine and the hood was sitting high and rattling. I was able to undo the 3 bolts and hit on the left side. It went down about 1/4". It bent the alignment tab down but that small movement made a huge difference.

Here is a pic. You can see how far it moved based on the dirt ring. It's possible it could break something so go slow.

 

Will it move down too? Mine is in need of moving down I think.

 

No Idea if it will work for you. Many times, the "hit it with a hammer" procedure is followed by some bad language and a trip to the part store so you'll have to decide. Just telling you what I did.

 

You should be able to take the 3 bolts loose on the latch and move the latch down to make the hood fit "tighter". Go slow and don't do too much at a time, don't slam the hood, lower it until you hear the latch catch it and the press down to lock it in place. See if you have taken up the slack, if not repeat the steps above until you have. Easy process. Good luck!

 

I figured out the rubber bumpers on top of the hood (4 of them) must have shrunk. I got an old mouse pad for them to smash when the hood closes. Secured by 3m weatherstrip adhesive. It was just spongy enough to keep it from rattling.
