How do I get this hose off the vent solenoid???

I am getting P0455 on occasion with a "tighten fuel cap" message on the DIC of my 2004 Z71. A new cap didn't solve it, so I got a new vent solenoid valve. However, I cannot get the dang hose removed from the old solenoid. I disconnected the hose from the evap system so I could remove the hose and solenoid and work on it right side up (instead of lying on my back). My friend and I used all our strength and could not get the hose to budge at all -- twisting or pulling.

There is no quick connect fitting like the other end of the hose. How the heck am I supposed to get this hose off???

If it's the same hose I'm thinking of I had to cut it off and buy a new 5/8" heater hose to replace it. It seemed like this is what everyone was doing at the time.

Edit: I think GM may have actually made a change to this system too. I'll have to see if I can find that info again, it's been a few years since I last looked.

Everything I have read says you can't remove it the hose, you have to cut it and buy a small piece of 5/8 heater hose and a clamp to reconnect it. I did this to mine and it worked fine.

I just did one of these friday at work. I disconnected the hose running back to the cannister and took it out as an assembly. I smashed the barb on the vent valve with a ball peen and a vice, then replaced it with the new part using the existing hose and RTV'd the connection for added insurance.

They did make a change, but I chose the $15 option instead of the $170+ "upgrade."

If I have to break it, then that's what I'll do. I took it apart and it was almost filled with red Oklahoma dirt, so I shook it all out (big pile!) and used my air compressor to blow out the filter that is in it and the hose. Lots of dust came out of that filter and hose, so hopefully I've fixed it by fixing the part itself. If not, I'll just crush the plastic extension on the old one and install the new solenoid.

Examine the rest of the evap system and hoses. Has to be another leak.

So, ACDelco gas cap, new vent solenoid, and I'm still getting a P0455 error code. That's the only error code. What should I check next?
ahight bro there are 2 solenoids... 1 @ the gas tank = vent solenoid .. and 1 @ the intake = purge solenoid.

sounds like you replaced the 1 @ the gas tank.... IMO - replace the 1 under the hood.( purge solenoid )

posted a pic of the rear solenoid with new hose attached. Oreilly auto parts

Did you clear the code with an OBDII scanner. It might be fixed but the computer just hasn't cleared the code. I got a code on my daughters cobalt and the fix was a new thermostat. I replaced the thermostat but code didn't go away. I hooked up my Bluetooth OBD2 and Torque app and cleared the code. Problem solved for almost a year now.

Ah, so there's one under the hood as well! I'll check that out next. And yes, I replaced the one at the gas tank. The hose didn't want to fit on the replacement very well, but I got it wedged on there so tight I don't think I'll be able to get it off in the future.

I have a bluetooth-enabled OBDII scanner that I use to read codes, clear them, monitor tranny temp, coolant temp, voltage, fuel economy, shift delays, speed, rpm, air cfm, etc. This is an error that pops up randomly. The DIC will chime with a "tighten fuel cap" message, then a couple starts later the light comes on with the same error code. I clear it, and it may be a week before it pops up again. I also got a P0430 a couple times several months ago, but it hasn't happened for quite some time, and it is unrelated (although it might help explain why my volumetric efficiency is only at 65% and my fuel economy sucks...)
