I hope I don't jinx myself. Going from a 4 speed('02 Avalanche) to and 8 in the 2019, I was leery after reading all the issues. Before I bought the truck(used), I had the dealer pull the trucks service history. At 33K miles it got a new TC. The truck had 49K on it when I bought it.
At 66K I had the fluid and filter changed...my mech said that the fluid smelled burnt. I'm at 78K and just returned home after pulling a 27' Airstream(7700lbs) to Canada and back-3500miles. The transmission was shockingly smooth in Tow mode. It up/down shifted on the hills picking the correct gear every time except for one time when it downshifted one gear too low. It was on I75 in KY...some of you know that hill...lol. The thing was seamless, running at 65mph @2900rpm on the
flats & delivering an average 12mpg.
I am going to stick with fluid and filter changes every 30K miles....it can't hurt and it makes me feel better. The 2.5 suspension lift and the Sumo springs made for a easy tow using a weight distributing hitch. I also think the longer wheelbase of the Standard bed helped too.
Anyone else happy with their 8 or 10 speed?
