The contacts in the switched can get dirty and not work. Fairly simple to pull them apart and clean them. I have used an eraser to clean the contacts before.

 

Thanks, I'll try that. It does it from either the switch on the drivers side or passengers side, but it could easily enough be both. That's a lot easier to try than pulling it all apart. Thanks again for the idea.

 

If it is happening with both...seems a bit less probable that it is the switch then. Could be a wire issue going to the motor.

 

Do you ever have issues with it going back up?

 

Yeah, does sound like a bad connection. But I have seen where the motor brushes get weak and cause intermittent operations. Try running it up and down, when it stops, give the door panel a good smack to see if that helps. Motor may also be getting heat soaked and then works when it cools down.

I have used the Dorman aftermarket brand with good luck on several trucks. Easy to do too!

 

I would take the door panel off and then reconnect the switches and check for power at the motor. Should have power on the blue wire when going up and power on the brown wire when going down. If power is good and your motor isn't operating you got a bad motor.

 

All good ideas, thanks guys. If it goes down I have never had a problem with it going back up even if I wait a minute or so. Sounds like I need to take the door panel off, check the voltage on both wires and clean the switches on both sides. I'm starting to think it may be the motor brushes too. I bought a cheap replacement when the original one broke about three years ago.Pretty cold here now but soon as I can get some garage time I'll try all these suggestions and let everyone know. I have another question coming about the climate control module but that's another post. Thanks again to all

 

May want to check the grounds to. Both up and down use the same grounds bit different wiring to a point. Without actuating the switch both wires going to the motor should go to ground. This is all assuming my schematics are correct for your truck of course.

 

That's a very good possibility. I'll check that first thing when I get the door panel off. Thanks. Gonna be rainy the next few days so it might be awhile before I get to it but I'll post the results.

 

I had the same problem on my 07 silverado. The drivers window worked fine but the passenger window only went down occasionally and the rear windows wouldn't go up but made a clicking noise. It ended up being the driver master switch and passenger switch both were bad so I just ordered some new ones cheap off amazon and they work great now.

Eventually some of that gets inside the switches and causes problems. A pencil eraser is all that is needed to clean them up. I did it on my driver side switch panel for the passenger window. That was six months ago and it is working perfectly. THere are videos on youtube showing you how to do it, but it is really a simple process.

 

Thanks to both of you. I'm going to pull and clean both those switches and maybe replace them if that doesn't work.

Yes definitely try this first. It didn't work for mine because some of the plastic pieces were broken but if it does it saves you some money.
