Does anyone know the difference between a 2010+ vin 3 and vin 7 (8th digit) LC9 engine? I have looked looked looked and can't find anything. I know the 07-09 have flat top piston 9.9:1 and VVL. The 10-14 have 9.6:1 valve notched pistons. But why am I finding vin 3 and 7 aluminum block engines in 2010+ trucks?

I think I figured it out. The 2007-2009 LC9 engine was a Vin #3. Then the VVT LC9 came out in 2010 (Also 2011) but still held the Vin #3. I think it was confusing having the VVT and standard cam with the same engine code so they changed the LC9 to Vin 7 in 2012+ Sooooooo any LC9 2010+ is the same engine Vin 3 or 7 doesn't matter.

2007-2009 LC9 vin 3
Flat top pistons, 9.9:1, Non VVT

2010-2014 LC9 vin 3 and 7
Valve relief in pistons, 9.6:1, VVT cam
