Low Oil Pressure at Idle

Hey everyone. I have a 2008 Sierra with 5.3. Had an AFM lifter failure about a month ago. Decided to do complete tear down and rebuild motor. Had bottom end done by local shop. Had a Stage 2 cam from TSP and DoD delete kit along with new oil pump springs and lifters installed. Had truck dyno tuned. So i am having a oil pressure issue. Starts up at 40 plus and even up to 60 while cold. Once warmed up pressure drops. Runs 40 on highway and 20 at idle. I removed lower pressure relief valve from oil pan. Put a good oil filter in and using 5w30 oil. Ive done compression checks. As for the clogged filter on the pressure switch on valley plate, I did not know about this until after installed back in truck but after speaking with Texas Speed they stated their valley plate does not have a filter. But with new motor wouldnt think it be clogged anyways. No other indications of issues.

The 20 at idle is lower than my '13 5.3 (only 15,000 miles) but the rest of your numbers are almost identical. Have you checked it with a manual gauge? Did you replace your oil pressure sending unit when you rebuilt the motor? Did you use an AC Delco sender?

I did not replace that sensor yet. Wish i had now that the motor is installed. From what i have been told it is either good or bad. and it seems to be moving according to load demands. I have not put a manual gauge on it as of yet. The oil pump is a GM performance pump from TSP. I thought at the time I ordered it that it was a high flow but they informed me its a standard. I know these newer models are running lower pressure and that may just be these new pumps.

Anybody have any suggestions to this low oil pressure issue. I just completed the complete delete kit from texas speed and also replaced the oil pump with the standard volume instead of the high volume per multiple recommendations. I'm also running around 13-15psi warm...

I have now put on about 4000 miles and the only issue is the low oil pressure. It goes up with acceleration and everything else appears to be running just fine. Someone mentioned the newer models run at lower psi and I wonder if the pump from TSP is for those models. No issues otherwise. Im running at 19 when in idle.

Get a tuner and bump your idle up to 650 rpm in drive and in neutral. That might bump the oil pressure gauge up a bit at idle.

I've had mine dyno tuned. Doesnt affect pressure. I believe it's the oil pump. Mine is an 08 and my old pump ran in low 40s. These new pumps are running at half that.
What pump did you get? I got low oil pressure too and yet have to install it. Melling Upgraded Pump for 10% more pressure over stock. Replacing the O-Ring and the Pickup Tube at the same time should give me alot of trouble free miles

I wasn't implying that a tune will affect oil pressure. But using a tuner to bump up the idle speed will. :D

GMC SIERRA SLE I know what you was saying. I tried that with a hand tuner and it made minimal increases. I was just saying from my experience. But you are right

As for the pum. I used Texas Speed GM pump. At the time I thought I ordered high output. Oring and tube all replaced. Pressure relief in pan deleted and plugged. Full AFM delete. Cruise at just under 40 on hwy. 19 at idle and 60 WOT

Late here but here is a pic of it. It's 17mm. And I tried to plug mine without dropping the pan and it's maybe possible. I got my relief valve out and almost got my plug in. Except I dropped it  so dropped the pan. You do not have to drop the front diff if your 4x4. Loosen the mounting bolts, the right axle flange and the steering cylinder mounts.... Did not fix my issue.. Btw...

I pulled the crossmember and the front diff. Dropped the pan and pulled that bypass valve, plugged it with an oil pan drain plug, fit perfectly. Put it all back together and it jumped up to about 45 psi cold startup, about 21-22 warm idle and about 30 cruising at 1500rpm. I'll take that over 20psi at start and 16psi cruising.

who installed the oil pump? what o ring was used? ( what color) was it seated into the pump properly, sounds like you are losing pressure at the o ring, there are a few different o rings, it could be you have the wrong one or it is not properly seated into the oil pump. just my 2 cents.

Mine is not technically stock. I have the AFM delete kit installed. I should have done it myself but I didn't have the time so I took it to a trusted shop to have them do it. He installed the high flow oil pump and told me to watch the pressure, if it goes below 20psi I need to look at have the bottom end rebuilt. I'm just concerned that it running at 17-18 psi it would start causing damage.

I did a delete last month myself, had 2 orings in the "new seals" kit, both will fit but only 1 was tight around the oil pickup tube and oil pump, I would want to see that if it were me. Good luck! I'm 22 to 25 psi warm idle, and 40ish when accelerating.

Has anyone figured this issue out? I just had my engine rebuilt because of the afm lifters collapsing. Stage 2 cam, melting oil pump, new cam and crank bearings, all new gaskets.

Oil pressure was around 20 psi in the first 50 miles of engine break-in. I changed the oil last night and it's around 35 psi now but slowly going back to 20 ish.

Engine runs fine except choppy idle but I have spent so much money I need to know if any one has fixed this issue.

Did you pay a shop to do the rebuild or do it yourself?

Ok. Understood. Have you reached out to them on this low pressure condition? That would be my first path.
