I bought a 2003 Silverado 2500hd with about 90,000 miles on it a couple months ago and have been casually going through it getting to know its' 'personality' and straightening up anything that needs patching up. I've noticed some weird behaviors just in the interior electrical systems that seem odd to me and I got to wondering if they might all be related with something like a faulty BCM. As far as external electrics, lights, and driveability, that's all perfect. It's all somewhat sporadic issues inside the cabin.
Symptoms I've noticed:
With my 2008 Chevy Trailblazer at 225,000 miles have none of these issues and working perfectly each and every time, it just seems odd that I would have lots of small sporadic issues only contained within the cabin. Almost makes me wonder about a BCM issue, but I wouldn't really know how to go about proving that without simply firing the parts cannon and replacing it just to see if that fixes anything. Anyone have any thoughts on if they might all be connected and where I might start tracking them down?
Symptoms I've noticed:
- The driver door interior light ALWAYS turns off after about 5 - 10 seconds of the door being open while the rest of the interior lights are all synced with the regular timeout period of like 30 seconds or so - always
- Sometimes, when I open the door, none of the lights come on as if the door switch hasn't been triggered. I can shut and re-open the door and the lights come on just fine. - very rare occasion
- Audible electrical 'buzz' noise from the (stock Bose) radio (replacing soon) and especially from the little I presume it's a speaker in the headliner nearly directly above the driver's left ear. I had AutoZone test the alternator as I know they can sometimes make noise and they said it tested fine. I can also hear, what sounds to be a slightly out of balance CD spinning in the deck, but the CD player is broken, so I don't actually know if there's a CD in there or not. - always
- My climate control temp just seems to pick mostly random temperatures as I turn the dial (both sides) instead of scrolling the temp up or down (this has developed in the last week or so and I presume it's just the control panel needing to be rebuilt) - just started, but getting worse
- I can start the truck, turn on my heated seat (and see that it did turn on), then look down again after a handful of seconds and it's off again. I'll switch it back on again and it sticks, but I really don't feel much of any heat on my butt - only my lumbar (don't know about passenger seat). - almost always (I think - have only used them today, but taken a couple trips with it)
- My Bose head unit forgot one (but not all) of my presets. I'm assuming this is just the Bose unit being flaky. - once or twice
- Sometimes, my driver door won't lock when it's asked. I can't feel the lock binding at all and I can see it wiggling, but it just doesn't quite get there. I can hit the lock button again and it locks no problem. - fairly rare
- I absolutely can not get 2 different Boost key fobs to pair to the truck. I've tried many times over multiple days and it just won't do it. I can, however, pair the stock fob just fine. I contacted Boost and, after their troubleshooting process of verifying the correct version and everything, they very promptly refunded my money and said "🤷♂️ something with the truck 🤷♂️".
