My truck is getting to the point where I'm needing an oil change here in the next month or so, and Costco has Mobil 1 advanced synthetic on sale. Has anybody used or is currently using this oil? Also should I run an engine flush before putting it in my motor?

is this any different than regular mobil1 synthetic?

I just changed my oil and am running this, only a couple hundred miles on the truck with this oil. I also use this in my other vehicles and I have never had an issue with it. Been using it in my car for about 50k miles and my wifes car for about 75k miles. If I was changing oils I would atleast run some seafoam or marvel mystery oil in your current oil before you change it then switch.

i run this oil, got about 25k on my truck running since new with 3 miles. i usually get a case for around 26 at Cost Co but other than that you can get it for around 35$ with a filter (5qt) and then the extra 7-8 bucks on a quart.
i change it about every 6500 but i hear guys go longer on this site with the computer calculations.
got to say every time i change oil its pretty dark in color but still feels and smells the same as the new stuff.

Awesome! The only reason I was planning a flush is just because I don't know what the dealer put into it prior to me buying the truck. I only assume it was conventional oil. Either way for as long as I own the truck it will be synthetic oil only.

Not needed. Just change it and go about your normal driving.. For the $$$ it is the best oil to use imho. I use Amsoil but it is a lot more. Many of my friends use it and have for many years with no issues ever engine related.

I just bought a 2011 from my local dealer and it requires the dexos synthetic. The dealer told me to stay away from mobil 1 dexos. is there any truth to this? I have run mobil 1 conventional with a little shot of lucas oil stabilizer in it in my 07 Malibu that has 120000 on it and change it religiously at 3000, haven't a bit of a problem with it other than the intake gasket going out.

I would say that is just some ones opinion. You are going to get a lot of responses on this. Mobil1 full synthetic (dexos) is probably the most popular oil on this list.
Also, I really don't think your truck requires Full Synthetic oil of any brand. It just has to meat the Dexos spec. Several oil companies make semi-synthetic that carries the dexos logo. Also, Any oil that "MEETS" or exceeds the Dexos spec is fine as well. Some oils meet the spec but do not carry the logo as GM forces the companies to pay to use the logo even though the oil indeed meets the requirements.

If you want to use Mobil1 full synthetic, I would say you should and feel comfortable in doing so.

Mine gives me about 7000 or so miles between oil changes. I have Mobile1 full Synth in it now. But I have been changing it at half that mileage (approx 3500) since I bought the truck in June.

I believe the monitor works on drive cycles?!?! How many times you start/stop. Highway miles vs city miles?!?! Someone more versed on that will chime in hopefully.

Yes, I beleive it also takes into account temp extremes. How aggressively you drive is also taken into account. Towing is also going to play into it.

it depends on the driving that you do not the type of oil. My truck can be at 20% in 3k or at 5K depending on if i do highway driving or city, i just ignore that when i am running synthetic and stick to 5000-6500 miles to change at. no use to throw away good oil if i dive on the highway for over half of the 5000 miles.
As of this winter the ambient temp does play a large factor in the calculation because i went down 15% in 1 week only driving 450 miles. been between -10 and 20 degrees here that the only time that i have notices a large decrees in %

Synthetic is the way to go in my opinion. I run Mobil 1 5w-30 and change it every 5000 miles and do my rotate and balance at the same time to keep in sync.
I do the same.

Since the factory fill is a semi-synthetic, to my understanding that what the OLM is tuned for. I see no issues with your thinking.

There are plenty of UOAs over at bobistheoilguy.com that state there is even plenty of life left using a synthetic even at 5,000 miles. So you could even go longer. You may want to consider sending in an oil sample to Blackstone Labs or one of the other companies that provide this service.

yeah, but for the cost of sending in a sample if i catch a good sale on oil at costco i can change it for an extra 7$ filter. So thats the only reason i have never sent in an oil sample. i think last time i looked it was around 30$, i could be wrong tho.

Hahaha Costco is running a coupon starting Thursday $10 off a case(6 qts mobil 1 advanced synthetic) I think it brings the price down to $28 for that case. That price smokes autozones price for it they wanted $9 a quart. As far a frequency goes this is the 1st time I have changed my oil in my truck and currently my OLM says 7% and I'm about 3000 miles early according to the sticker that the dealer put on i dont know if they reset the OLM or not. It is getting pretty dark so I figure I will go by color this time around.

Walmart around here always has the 5 quart containers of Mobil1 Synthetic for about $26 regular price. Another quart is probably 6 or 7 bucks more so I don't worry too much about sales. (no costco near me anyway). All the parts stores that run specials are always more than the regular price at walmart. Same go with all the brands of oil.

As far as that sticker that the dealer puts on when they change the oil, it is probably good for some of those that either can't figure out how to view the OLM on the DIC or just don't want to bother with it. The sticker is pretty idiot proof and familiar to most folks. Plus, if it is like my dealer, he slaps one on there that is about 3200 miles out which is less than half of what my OLM is telling me...They get you in for twice as many oil changes that way.
