New pitman arm and now steering wheel is off

Okay, I've been busting my ass fixing damn near everything wrong with the truck this week, and my biggest and almost last issue now is this, so about a month ago, I got a new mevotech idler and pitman arm, installed them both no problem, I marked the splines and installed it the exact same way it was taken off, I have checked to be sure 3 seperate times, but now the steering wheel is 90° off, the steering wheel points towards the passenger door while driving, not sure what the deal is, its installed perfectly fine, would an alignment be able to fix this much of a difference, it was perfectly straight before the new pitman arm, any ideas help

You really need to quit doing things that are beyond your capability. You've done something wrong, or you have the incorrect parts. The wheel being a little off can be corrected via alignment, and is usually normal due to new "tighter" tolerances on the replacement parts. A lot off would cause me to question your installation.

Take the truck to a reputable mechanic and get it repaired properly.
Perhaps there is a technical college close by that offers continuing education classes in the evening for Auto Mechanics. It will do you a world of good.

Honestly, Jeff (Roorancher) is 100% correct. I get that the truck is sentimental, but you're ultimately hurting yourself with these repairs.

Even if all went well, I would highly recommend getting an alignment done at a shop - this is NOT something you should do at home. They will be able to tell you if you did something wrong or be able to fix your steering wheel correct. This should be done regardless. Any time the steering is changed upfront, and alignment should be done.

Just curious how stupid you can be to tell me my repairs are wrong, did you see how I installed it, do you have the issue I'm having, do you know what I know, no then quit runnin ya damn mouth, I know what I'm doing, everything is installed properly, on the correct spline, steering box is good ect, I'm fully capable of doing my own repairs, who knows if the aftermarket pitman arm is just aligned differently than oem, you can talk trash all you want, I just asked a simple question, if I asked for advice on what I need to do with my life then I would have made a post about it, if you cant contribute to the problem at hand then dont comment at all, every single thing I post I have 1 or 2 people saying I need to stop repairing my truck, it's never left me stranded, and I've never had to go back and redo something that I've done, this is my truck, if I make mistakes along the way, that's fine, it's just a truck, but I come here to get advice on how to do things on my own, not how to be one of those city boys who has daddy pay to put it in the shop, I never have and never will pay someone to fix something on any of my vehicles unless it is something out of my control such as alignment, and that's all I was asking

Nice response!
No 18 year old is going to lecture me. You would figure after all your posts and the plethora of false information you've shared, or information you've withheld, you'd come around.
I'm out!

We have tried to help you, multiple people have. Maybe it's time you find a different place to ask your questions at.

I'm done with this. Good luck.

Agree with above after any steering work it is a must to take in for a alignment.. It only takes one or 2 teeth off to get your steering out.. new parts tighter tolerances compared to old. Were tires facing 100% forward when you started and did you recenter steering wheel before installing new one... In any case take it to a shop and have them set the alignment and check over your work.. Better safe than sorry... Im always up for people learning and doing their own work but sometimes you need to admit its over your head and have someone with some experience and show you what you may have done wrong... Not sure about your other posts around here but judging by some comments you only give half the story not a good way to get help

it being off 90* means you didn't put it on the correct way, its off a couple teeth. So it may need to be re installed in a different location.

Any time you touch steering components it should be re aligned, counting threads and teeth only gets you close to where it needs to be.

Well Well Well,, Here we are again Skylardog123, Everything is fixed?? Ten days later we are having brake problems, another ten days later the steering?
Who knows what condition the steering was in before you screwed with it! Now you threw parts at it and its still screwed up?
You dropped your motor onto the frame and blew out your AC clutch into the Pitman arm or idler arm (couldn't tell from who's ever truck you posted picts of), Lets see,,, We do not know where the steering wheel was positioned prior to the parts exchange cause you did not explain your self.
Now you wanna get all pissy when a senior member suggests you take it to a mechanic just like you asked?
Smooth move, think you just sealed your fate! As far as defending not being a Troll? NOT, you blew it!
Supposedly you did everything right yet, it wasn't broke now its broke? Who broke it?

here's some advice young man,,,,

I mean the thread literally says the steering was perfect before install, and from what I've been told so far, most aftermarket pitman arms have a different spline alignment than oem, and also since the new pitman arm tightened up the slack, there will need to be an alignment, so got an alignment and all is good, so I didnt install anything incorrectly like you assumed

SOOOO,, the spline alignment was in the wrong position thus causing the perfect wheel to be off by 90 degrees? And after a few of us tried to point that out you took that as us bashing you cause you did it perfectly right?
Had to remove the arm and move it a few splines to center steering wheel? And that justifies us Bashing you?
If where ever the wheel was before you touched, then you touched it and it it became 90 degrees doesn't shout out anything then I guess WE are all just country bumpkins wasting our time trying to help you! Guaranteed I will not be accusing you of anything anymore.

Ok. Enough. No reason to keep this going.
