Oil Pickup Tube O Ring Replacement

Hi Guys,

I have a 2008 GMC Sierra HD 4x4 with the 6.0 V8 Gasser in it. It has low oil pressure at idle. I have done all the tests, mechanical gauge, pressure sending unit, etc. I think it is the oil pickup tube oring is torn. Causing aeration and low oil pressure at idle and when I rev the engine it gains oil pressure. I picked this truck up and plan on flipping it so I am putting minimal time and money into it.

My question is:

Can I replace the oil pickup tube oring without tearing apart the pump, harmonic balancer all that. Just by squeezing in through the drooped down oil pan. Also will I have enough room to get at this by just dropping the pan down and not fully off so I will not have to remove the differential?

Thanks

You have to Remove either the oil pan and remove the pickup tube, or remove the Harmonic Balancer and all other things the are in the way of the timing cover, remove timing cover then "try" and get the bolt out of the pickup tube and push it down to change the o-ring.

There is no screen on the 6.0's like there is under the sending unit like on the 5.3 Liters. I learned that the hard way

I ended up unbolting the front driveshaft at the u-joint and unbolting the front diff and letting it sag down. I got the oil pan out and pickup tube off. I have a red o-ring ready to put back on.

Thanks guys
