Painting plastic vortec engine cover

I just picked up some Krylon fusion paint to spruce up my engine bay cover a little bit. I was just going to clean it really well and start spraying but I don't want it to chip off in a few months/years. I'd rather it be a little more permanent. So should I use a plastic bonding agent? And if so what kind?

I've done a lot of taping today so I'm not going to take it all off to scuff up the surface for better adhesion. So that idea is out the window, but aside from that, any tips on this would be appreciated!

I'll update with some pics asap.

You do not need high heat paint. You are painting plastic for crying out loud.
If it were to get hot enough to make the paint peel, your engine cover would MELT!!
Here's the deal...can you touch the plastic engine cover without giving yourself 3rd degree burns?
No, you won't get burned; it will be a little warm at the most.

My engine cover has been painted for about 2 years now with regular rattle can touch up paint and I have 3M Carbon Fiber vinyl wrap on it.
Still kooks as good as it did the first day I sprayed it.

The roof of your truck will get a lot hotter in direct sunlight than your engine cover ever will.

I agree you don't need high heat paint but I used it anyways, VHT engine enamel. I removed the parts I wanted to paint, wash with warm soapy water, taped off what I didn't want painted then finished off with some rubbing alcohol to the rest of the covers to get anything else off of it. Then just spray a couple of coats and let dry. Done mine about 3 years ago and still holding up well.

Agree with all above who used krylon fusion. I did mine this past summer and it's still holding up perfect under the hood. Prep it good and you'll be fine.
