Question of the Week: Does Your Vehicle Get Good Fuel Economy (in Your Opinion)?

Right now, the average price of a gallon of regular-grade gasoline is $3.42 and the average price of diesel fuel is $3.64 (as of 11/8/21). With prices steadily climbing at the moment, fuel mileage is becoming increasingly important to many drivers

With that in mind, we want to know: Does your vehicle get good fuel economy (in your opinion)—and how many miles per gallon does it get on average?

First, you need to define "good fuel economy."
A catch all phrase mentioned out in the ether without foundation, means nothing.

I have several vehicles that use gasoline.
My 15 Silverado averages 18.3.
My wife's 05 Element and 19 Ram Promaster City average in the mid 20s.

And then, you don't really want to talk about the boat and SeaDoo, that use ethanol free.

It really comes down to what you're willing to spend on gasoline for your particular "lifestyle" and needs.

My truck averages 17mpg, give or take some, in mixed driving and that's just fine with me. If it only did 14mpg, or 12mpg, that would be just fine, too. I don't own a truck for gas mileage. It consumes what it consumes and I fill it up when ever it needs it.

Around town I average around 13-14 in the warmer months. In winter when I need to warm it up and idle time goes up, I'll drop about 1-2 mpg.

Highway I can easily break 19-20mpg cruising along at 70. If I slow down I've gotten 21mpg before. And that's with a crew cab, leveled truck on 33" tires, or even the 35s I had on there, and all hand calculated.

Since I have done my compound turbo setup, I do not seem to have lost any fuel milage around town. I'm still gathering a solid average to base my numbers on, but as of now, my fuel milage has stayed the same, or gone up slightly. This is honestly a shock to me, but it seems to be the case thus far. Highway is yet to be determined.

That's impressive, especially with the oversized tires!

My truck is rated 15/19 by the EPA. I get 13/18 in usual driving. One time, I actually got 19.6 on the highway. I don't drive it a lot so it really doesn't matter but it's a truck so it is what it is. I don't expect great mileage.

My wife's new midsize AWD SUV is rated 26/33. We're getting 28 around town and have gotten 36 on the highway. No complaints there! We hope it might even get a little better after it's broken in a bit (only 5,000 miles on it so far). It's the first vehicle I've ever owned that consistently gets better MPG than the EPA estimates.

My truck gets between 14 - 17 MPG depending on use. This is with E rated LT275/65R18 tires, 3.42 gears and 2” level. I think it’s damn good considering it’s a big heavy truck and I don’t drive it much. If it was a daily driver it would hurt with these biden fuel prices.

I don't obsess with fuel economy. I driven a truck for most of my life (50 yrs), I will always drive a truck. That said, I looked at my DIC which has not been reset from day 1 (12-07-20) and it shows 19.6 mpg over the last 11,000+ miles. It will show up to 23mpg when cruising at 65mph or less. I drive 2-Lane 98% of the time, few stop lights around here to sit and waste gas waiting for them to change. I also drive in 4wd AUTO during the winter when roads are bad (75% of the time) so that figures into the 19.6. The truck is 100% stock, no modifications nor will there ever be. Only thing that is not stock is I use AMSOIL 100% Synthetic Lubricants throughout for the best possible efficiency.

2021 Sierra Denali CC 4wd Ultimate 6.2L 10-sp trans. No truck payments so $100-$150 per month in gas is not going to change my mind

Almost 20 mpg with the bigger 6.2L V8 is awesome (y)

Wait yall keep up with mpgs and stuff like that? all I know is sometimes I fill up twice a week 🤷‍♂️

avg 13-15 depending on the speed. Honestly higher than I thought considering 4.56 gears and oversized E load tires on a crew cab. As long as we stay double digits in the ole girl she can stay.

Cam and headers though.... would be nice mmmmmm

2500 6.0. My only saving grace is that its Flex Fuel! Filled up at the beginning of the month= $78. Hopefully I wont need to fill again until December!
Out here FF was $3.39 a gallon as apposed to $4.66 for regular!
Looks like it will be a winter of flex fuel for me!
Do you have hard starts with E85 when it gets real cold? I haven't run a factory E85 car / truck in the winter yet. My modified E85 cars have to go to E40 in the winter because of hard starts.

bidens energy secretary just laughed off the U.S. going energy independent. States we’re depended on OPEC. What a crock of shit, we could be totally energy dependent in months. Trump had us there. People that vote with their emotions have no place voting. You don’t have to like the guy in the Oval Office’s personality, however, the guy in the Oval Office has to have the countries and the American Peoples best interests at the forefront. The guy there now can’t even remember how many pairs of underwear he soils in any given day.

10 average. Can get as high as, low 16s with pure highway driving. I'll be seeing single digits from now till probably March or later though with cold start warm ups in the mornings.

Ouch, 6.0l and 4 speed. Wish they would have made a 4.8l with a turbo. Could have had the power / TQ and mileage. Been thinking about trying it myself.

Yeah, it really sucks they are killing manual transmissions. It's all I used to drive too. Makes it hard for project vehicles if you want to swap to a MT and they have never made a certain ECU in MT to copy over. At least we have good automatics these days. My only gripe about them was how much power they rob and so few gears. Honestly almost all of that has been addressed with current stuff. A 6+ speed auto with full TCU control with lockup anywhere and any gear you want is really cool stuff.

The EPA didn't rate my Yukon XL. Its combined average over the last 4 years on gasoline is 15.3 MPG and on E85 it is 13.5 MPG.

The Sierra's combined city/highway numbers are 11.6 MPG on gasolina and 9.9 MPG on E85.

For a full size truck my truck does fine. I didn't buy it for fuel economy. I bought it because it was the vehicle I wanted. I average between 15 mpg and 17 mpg. I might even get a little worse depending on my self-control (or lack thereof) regarding acceleration.
