I've have noticed in the past few days REMOTE START questions pop up and become OFF the OP's original TOPIC so I thought we could use this as a catch all for things we KNOW and DON'T KNOW about remote start

So !!!!!!!

Let's leave it all here and keep everyone happy. :D

Let everyone know what knowledge you have or don't have and leave questions for others to answer.

I don't think I have remote start, since I don't have the remote start key fob or the RPO code, but I have this sticker on my rad shroud. Is this some type of aftermarket remote start? where would I even look for the components that comprise the remote start package?
you can look for the reciever and than match the part number, mines located on driver side behind the pillar by the rear glass i spent 1 1/2 years trying to prove to the dealer that i had remote start that they didnt sell me,and with the GM customer service rep on here and the guys at the factory to prove them wrong, with a bunch of problems from the aftermarket one, tunred out that all i needed was a replacement fob, and boom i have remote start. that all ended No B.S today. but typically, as stated before... you need RPO AP3 from the factory/ or AP8 remote start ready package..

There is another option if you want a basic remote start and to use the factory keyless remote. You need the following and no gm dealer programming fee either. Just find a local stereo shop that sells Directed electronics alarms ie viper,python.... Ask for part number Db-all and the T- harness that connects in line at the column. Have the shop flash the Db-all with your type of truck and about 30 minutes later it can be installed at the lower dash requires like 2 wires to tap in at the obd II port back of connector. Now press lock on remote 3x and it starts. Simple . I did mine.

I have the factory remote start but have a question. The range seems to be pretty crappy, is that normal? And my remote is only 1-way not 2-way. For example, my truck was parked about 40 yds away and I tried starting it from inside the house...no go. any ideas? And do they make 2-way OEM remotes/systems?

Yes. The range can be crappy at times. I haven't figured that one it myself. But I use the onstar app if I don't think it will reach.
Yes. They make a 2 way which cost is expensive IMO but everyone I know says the range isn't any better and the remote is bigger. There's a topic. Search 2-way remote

Your truck has to have remote start activated.. If you have the AP3 code you have remote start and it should work. If you have AP8 you have to have it activated through the dealer.
If your getting an error message, try deleting the app and reinstall it.

I have a viper 5901, don't know if this is relevant to your topic but I installed it myself, it has all the basic functions of the remote and is two way. The fob is about the same size as the factory Albright a bit boxier. It was like seven wires, if you can read a schematic color wires and take apart the couple of bolts you can do it really simple. I just read the directions and I did it in the evening in one night.

Best parts, starts a mile away and it will tell me. Will know wherever you are that you locked it by looking at the screen, you can hit remote start remove key and run in the store without turning on and off, you can get a read out of the temperature in the cab of your truck, silent and sounded alarm if it gets bumped and a few others that you can add

11gmcdixie & jonnyblaze,

The RemoteLink application works with the vehicle settings that are factory installed in each model. Due to hardware limitations only select vehicles that are 2010 or newer are able to access this feature. I'd be happy to review your account and answer any questions, just send me a PM with your contact and account information. Thanks!

My 2010 Sierra has terrible range on the remote start.... my 2007 had epic range and I could start it from large distances. Replacing the remote battery didn't change anything for me. Never really figured out why the huge difference; I would think the older model would be worse not opposite.

My '13 Silverado CC came with "remote vehicle start" option listed on the build sheet (window sticker). The remotes have the little circle arrow. I followed the instructions in the manual to crank it with remote, but it didn't do anything. I didn't get a chance to try the other remote to see if it works, but I will when I get home this evening. If neither one will crank it remotely, I guess it's off to the dealer to see why it doesn't work?? The remotes seem to work in every other aspect. Maybe something with the components that make it work?? Or maybe remote needs programming??
