hit up a local driveshaft shop and have them make one for you.

 

I’ll give that a shot after Labor Day. They rolled up the sidewalks around here. This is a strange place.

There is no guarantee that any new driveshaft will be indestructible. Take a medium to medium light steel chain that has welded links. Then cut it to the correct length, and then padlock it to the frame rails or some other strong material under the truck - near the front half of the drive shaft. If the front of the driveshaft comes off, it will make some racket - but it will not cause an accident.


There are plenty of brackets you can buy, but I just use a chain.

 

The metal fabrication shown there is beyond my skill set. I can weld and cut but my results usually ain’t that pretty.

There is not much to it. But it does require some tools to install. Probably a drill and some hand tools. Take your time, measure twice and cut once. There is not rush, so take your time. There are YouTube videos on the install of similar products.

I’m a HUGE gan of YouTube when it comes to semi difficult repair work.

 

Watch what/where you bolt it to, as you probably don't want the bolt heads in the truck bed.

 

I have a ton of hand tools. I won’t brag on myself too much. I can manage small repair jobs around the house and even some automotive maintenance and repairs.

 

Id it dificult to exchange the drive shafts? Do I need to exchange the drivedhaft that goes to the front diff?

Can I gather enough info from YouTube to get everything where it is supposed to be and fastened in?

 

Well, if you are doing 4wd launches or going top speed in 4wd/awd, you might consider it. But you might just check if it's magnetic, as I wouldn't be surprised if the front was steel.

If you just do this stuff in 2wd, then you don't need to worry about it, the front shaft only spins when in awd or 4wd modes.

As someone who has done this you might be way over thinking this. The stock driveshaft is good enough unless you plan to supercharge/turbo pushing your torque well over 600tq to the wheels, you plan to be launching hard, or driving over 100mph.

 

Supercharge could be in my truck’s future. I’m retired from law enforcement in Texas and I regularly, really regularly,drove 140+ (and loved every minute of it) on the highways that criss crossed our county trying to get to calls for service. I imagine I might accidentally step over that 100 mph line in my truck a on rare occassion.

 

I turned the speed limiter off with my tuner. I believe it was set at 95 mph.
