Reset oil change light

I changed the oil for the first time in my 2001 Silverado 1500. I was going to bring it to a shop because I couldn't get underneath, I was able to after removing the driver's side running board, or whatever it's called (large diameter tubes). Per the manual I downloaded, the procedure to reset the change oil alert was to press the accelerator 3x within 5 seconds when having the ignition in the run position. I tried that several times, the light stayed on. I saw somewhere else the accelerator should be depressed 5x. That did it - or maybe out of the 5 3 where depressed enough to register. The only thing I saw when doing it 3x was the red battery light, went off/on. Either way it's fine, but I wonder if it's possible for a 4.8 L to be different. Since I didn't reference the manual that actually came with the truck, maybe there were some differences in the process?

This is from my 02 Sierra owners manual. I've got a 4.8 and those procedures work fine.
How to Reset the CHANGE ENGINE OIL Message
The GM Oil Life System calculates when to change
your engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime
your oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate
when the next oil change is required. If a situation
occurs where you change your oil prior to a CHANGE
ENGINE OIL message being turned on, reset
the system.
To reset the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message do
the following:
1. Turn the ignition key to RUN with the engine off.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three
times within five seconds.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message flashes for
five seconds, the system is reset

It's the speed of pushing and releasing the pedal the pedal that makes the difference. Do it too fast and it won't work.

If you push and release it three times in one second it may not work. If you do it so that three times takes three seconds, it will work fine.

That's NOT what she said
