Hello y’all ,
So me and my husband thought we knew what we had to fix on our 2018 gmc sierra 1500 slt. We were going to try and replace the tension pulley, not knowing we had to remove the belt first. We removed the tension pulley and realized when we went to replace it with the new one that we couldn’t get the belt back on! We looked at every single video but have not been able to find a video with our type of diagram and also just decided to look for more information or help ! Please and thanks!

The square hole (just below side of finger/fingernail in pic) the tensioner arm will fit the square on a rachet.
With the tensioner bolted into place, the rachet can be used to overcome the spring in the tensioner and pivot the tensioner arm so the belt can be put in the correct place before allowing the tensioner to pivot back to tension the belt.

Unfortunately not. The eAssist engine is pretty rare and hardly anybody on here are familiar with it. Things such as belt routing is completely different from the normal engines in these trucks.

However, if you have the correct tensioner meant for the eAssist engine and it is installed correctly, there should be no issue reinstalling belt. You might need to check and verify your part and installation.

Stretch the new belt along with old one side by side and the new belt should/ might be about a 1" shorter.

New tensioner and new belt can be a real PITA. Long handle ratchet and pull. You should feel the tensioner bottom out.

You either have the belt routed incorrectly or the wrong tensioner. Just because it’s a 5.3L V8 and AutoZone or another box store says it fits, that doesn’t make it correct for your oddball engine. The belt routing is completely different from the 5.3 in ‘16 Sierra. From what I can see though in very few diagrams, it looks much simpler than my engine and pretty straight forward. And your using the same belt so it should stretch/flex much easier than a new belt would
