So today I picked up a Mobil1 Extended Performance Oil filter #M-113(A) for my truck to do an oil change. I always wondered if there was a compatible Mobil1 filter that was taller for more filter surface area, so I grabbed the taller boxes and looked through the filters. I found the M1-212(A) filter, which is identical to the M1-113(A) filter, and is the same price as well. Well I contacted Mobil1 through email and they sent me the specs on both, and sure enough both filters are identical except the M1-212 is 1-1/4" taller.

So if anyone who uses Mobil1 Filters, or anyone who just wants a taller filter, the Mobil1 Extended Performance M1-212(A) is a compatible filter that sells for the same price as the M1-113(A).

Yep, I've used the M1-212A (same as a pf63) for some time now on my Traverse... it calls for a shorter one (pf47 or M1-113A). I've noticed no difference, meaning any leaks, etc. but I do feel a bit better about the additional filter volume.

On a side note, I am glad that both of my vehicles will accept the exact same extended filter now. It's a bit tight on the Traverse (since it's a stupid transverse mount) but it still works great.

That's all I have used on mine. M1-212 or M1-212A

I use the WIX 57045, which is their version of the taller filter. I like that it slightly increases the filter area and is easier to install and remove. This subject has been discussed on here before, and there's quite a few that will argue that the engine is designed for the shorter filter and you should only use the correct filter, to which I reply bullsh*t...LOL

A taller filter can affect things such as pressure and gpm if it has more/less pleats, or finner/less fine filter media. But in this case, it is identical and the flow rate is the same, at least for the Mobil1. The filter could be 6" longer and will make No difference what so ever other than greater oil capacity. There is also a chart that has direct replacements for the M1-113 (A). Also, A picture of my M1-113A before I replace it with the taller filter.

The longer length helps me have something more to grab when removing and installing. Simply convenience for me.

thank you for the perfect shot of your filter, can you take a new picture from the same angle showing how far the taller filter protrudes from its recess on the crank case?

I had the taller filter on my last oil change. It still is recessed compared to the pan.

I went back to the 113 on this oil change because I was on the fence and (mostly) because the 212 was out of stock. The 212 is easier to get a hold of, but I can still get the 113 off with my filter wrench without much hassle since I don't crank it down like the maniacs at the dealership did.

Yes, I will snap a picture tomorrow. It is still recessed in the pan/shorter than the oil pan if that is what you are concerned about.

Will the M1-212 work on the 6.0 motor as well?
I know for sure in the 2007.5 and newer 6.0 engines. Some of the earlier ones, as well as the 5.3s, used a smaller diameter threaded coupler to thread the filter onto. If the M1-113(A) is listed as a compatible filter for your vehicle, then the M1-212(A) will work.
