Thoughts on using larger oil filter for 2013 6.0

I recently changed the oil & filter on my 2013 HD 6.0 to Amsoil Signature Series 5w30 with the EA15K50, which is a 15,000 mile oil filter. Even though I'm still going to stick with a 5 - 7,000 mile change interval, I would think that a larger oil filter (Amsoil EA017) would filter better as it becomes used over the thousands of miles due to more filter surface area.. Like I said, even tho the EA017 is the 25,000 mile rater oil filter I'm still going to continue with a 5,000 change interval. The EA017 is basically the same oil filter with the same features of the EA15K50, just a bit taller, threads are the same obviously. What do yall think about larger oil filters?

I have always opted to use a larger than stock oil filter on virtually every vehicle I've ever owned. I figure that little bit of extra filtering material is a good thing. Does it help anything? Probably not. Does it hurt? Nope.

There are certain situations when a smaller filter actually has a better efficiency. There are times when bigger ones would be excellent. The "what if" scenarios go on and on. It is so case specific for what filters you consider. "Bigger = better" only applies (generally) if other parameters are the same (media type, etc). You cannot assume that a larger filter always has the same media and spec's as a smaller one.

IMO, you need to define "why" you "want" a bigger filter. Are you seeking more OCI duration? Is it greater filtration efficiency? Is it something else? But keep in mind, your current OCIs probably are no where near the danger zone for your OEM spec'd filter. Your desire to "upgrade" will likely do nothing but satisfy your own emotions.

The only issue may be the difference in pressure across the gradient to trip the bypass valve for the OEM specified filter vs the larger one. I know for mine I always run a 4" long vs 3" and they have different specs. Just don't let it go so long that it does get clogged.

Why? Best choice for Germans, IMO. Mann at least used to also the OEM manufacturer of filters for MB and BMW. Used to even be mande in Germany. Haven’t had an old MB or BMW in a few years, so not sure if they’re still made there.

I watched a YT vid where a Mann oil filter was cut open & taken apart & it was the only one with a different kind of by-pass valve. Forget who's channel it was.. But according to Mann's site their oil filters are designed to retain oil inside of the filter media so its more readily available on startup

My daughters KIA K5 comes with a MANN reuseable filter case, the filter cartridges are MANN (from KIA). I see F1 and other foreign racing cars use MANN parts and filters.
Me,, Oh I use a filter made in the USA,,Baldwin!
Not to big, not to small. Have seen Baldwin used in heavy equipment and over the road trucks. Seen a video of one and others being taken apart. Very well built!
I buy them by the case so it will be a long time before I go with a foreign filter or a larger filter!
