I just bought a 2009 gmc sierra with the 5.3 flex fuel and a 6 speed transmission the engine also has the active fuel management i am fixin to get a leveling kit and tires but am wondering what kind of gas mileage people are getting with 33s vs 35 inch tires on a 17 inch rim i had a 07 nbs silverado with 35s and was getting around 13 14 but have had friends with the 5.3 6 speed tell me with 35s on the highway he is getting like 8 bc it stays at 3500 rpms. trying to make the more logical decision without sacrificing looks dont want 8 mpg thats for sure any info can help and also i am new to this site

I have a 2010 with same motor. With stock 265/65-18 i was getting 16-17 during my weekly driving. I am in hill country and on back roads alot. With my 01 with 5.3 i usually got 14-15 during the same week.

I put a 2" level and 275/75-18 Kelly Safari TSR (10 ply) and it went down to 13-14. So from 16-17 to 13-14 on average. I didnt want 10 plys but wanted the TSR and in the size its the only offering. Depending ont he mileage i get out of them i may go to an AT the next time but i keep hearing i should get 50k out of them. If i do its worth the hit in fuel mileage to me because its a beefy tire and looks good!

Howdy all, I am brand new to the site. Mine is a 2011, 5.3l with 3000 miles on it now has been leveled plus 2 inches. I am running 35x12.5-18 Nitto's and my milage has never gone over 13MPG. Yes, MPG's suck! Wish we could get real gas back again!
That my friend is one sharp looking truck! Nice job...love the look. Your MPG sacrifice was well worth it!

Also new to the site, I recently put 35s on my truck and the gas mileage si pretty rough. I have same motor and tranny setup as yours but im running substantial lift. Im not sure on this but you will most likely not fit the 35 with the truck as it is. I know its tough for a 33 on stock ride so that may be as large as possible without modifications. the other thing to consider as well is the factory settings will not accept a 35 inch tire and throws your speedo and shift points out of whack, you need a tuner to compensate(at least on the 2011 you do). My 35s are on 20s and i get roughly 10mpg. If you are worried about cost vs looks stay with the 33

Stop voting for democrats and we can have real gas back again. This e85 and 10-25% ethanol mix is just garbage!

it is all in your gear ratio? tuners are not going to give you back your gas mileage on a tire that big. they may give you some performance enhancement but I would not fiddle around with a tuner till you got it broke in. these newer trucks have a learning transmission in them. if you noticed it probably shifts poorly right now, at about 6k it is going to start shifting a lot smoother along with your gas mileage will start increasing. At 10k you will really love your truck for it will be a part of you and your driving habits.
Final Note, A good rule of thumb before the 6-speed was a 3.73 for tires around 33", 4.11 for a 35". Just my two cents.

As a deeply rooted Republican with an allergic reaction to anything Left...I can safely say that the highest quality high-octane un-watered down fuel ain't gonna make jetpig's tires turn over easier. Those are some hefty sombitches!

I definitely have those same allergies! Got to have the 35's though. 33's high-center just a bit on all those prius's out there with obama stickers on them!
I do agree fully with the idea of 4.11's though. Mine will barely stay in 6th at anything under 60mph. Half the time I find it running in 5th down the road until I let off a bit and force the shift. My previous truck of another manufacture did get a full 2mpg better with 100% dino gas though. Can't even do that test now. No 100% around my neck of the woods anymore.
