I just had the exact thing happen in my truck about 10,000 miles ago. My truck now has 176,000 miles on it.
To give you the news, it needs to be rebuilt.
Click on this and read an old thread of mine:
Trans can't make up mind sometimes, and P1870
What happens is this:
The isc (tcc)valve bore wears out in the valve body. It is I think a factory design flaw because it is wider than it is long. Read that old thread of mine, because it may just be as simple as replacing what's wrong, but I got my trans totally rebuilt. Then I told my trans guy I wanted to feel my shifts, so he threw in a "super servo". If I leave a light and I'm over 1/2 throttle, it chirps 2nd HARD. I don't recommend this for anyone. I did it cause my trans guy told me that it may prolong the life of the trans because there is less slippage in the clutches. That may be true, but to the normal everyday driving world, it could become very annoying. Plus, if your tranny lasted 188,000 miles, just get it rebuilt to stock specs. FYI: my complete rebuilt cost me about $2100, and that was with the upgraded servo. My guy gave it a 3 year 50,000 mile warranty with the AutoMatic Transmission Union. It should cost you just under 2k for a stock rebuild. I went with the full rebuild, cause look at it this way. If you fix what's wrong with it, the rest of the trans still has 188,000 miles on it. May as well just do it all and don't worry about it.
