Tranny shifts really hard every once in a while

I have a 2000 1500 Z71 with a 5.3L and 4L60E. Every once in a while, usually about one time every other month, I will be driving normal down the highway. I come to a stop and when I go to take off again the tranny bangs hard into 2nd and 3rd gear but shifts into overdrive just fine. It will keep doing this at every take off. If I shut the truck off for 30 seconds or so and try to go again it will shift just fine. My truck has done this the whole time I have owned it. I bought it with 90k on it, and it has 188k on it now. I'm afraid that one of these times it shifts hard it's gonna shell something. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I just had the exact thing happen in my truck about 10,000 miles ago. My truck now has 176,000 miles on it.
To give you the news, it needs to be rebuilt.
Click on this and read an old thread of mine:
Trans can't make up mind sometimes, and P1870
What happens is this:
The isc (tcc)valve bore wears out in the valve body. It is I think a factory design flaw because it is wider than it is long. Read that old thread of mine, because it may just be as simple as replacing what's wrong, but I got my trans totally rebuilt. Then I told my trans guy I wanted to feel my shifts, so he threw in a "super servo". If I leave a light and I'm over 1/2 throttle, it chirps 2nd HARD. I don't recommend this for anyone. I did it cause my trans guy told me that it may prolong the life of the trans because there is less slippage in the clutches. That may be true, but to the normal everyday driving world, it could become very annoying. Plus, if your tranny lasted 188,000 miles, just get it rebuilt to stock specs. FYI: my complete rebuilt cost me about $2100, and that was with the upgraded servo. My guy gave it a 3 year 50,000 mile warranty with the AutoMatic Transmission Union. It should cost you just under 2k for a stock rebuild. I went with the full rebuild, cause look at it this way. If you fix what's wrong with it, the rest of the trans still has 188,000 miles on it. May as well just do it all and don't worry about it.

he is right about the 1870 code. It will start happening more often. You dont want your trans to bark the tire even the racer dont want that. When the tires chirp or bark you are losing power... what is really going on is the transmission is binding up and stopping the tires for a split second. alot of people are going to argue with me but what do i know i just do it for a living. Yor trans need a rebuild get it done sooner than later. MAKE sure they put a sonnaz lock up valve <isc>
