Wheel Speed Sensors

Hi all

I have been reading the post and no one seems to have this issue. Like everyone else, I have ABS activation at low speeds. This was caused by a faulty ABS sensor on the RT Wheel. We went to Rileys and got a replacement. It went from not so bad to activating and pulling to the right. I am fortunate to have a Maxsys scanner and I drove the truck with monitoring the live data from the speed sensors. Here is what I saw

RT wheel sensor STOPPED reporting at 8.2 MPH
LT wheel sensor STOPPED reporting at 3.75 MPH
Rear-wheel sensor STOPPED reporting at 3.75 MPH

Moving forward all sensors reported equal speeds after 8.2 MPH

Wow! interesting.

I replaced the LT sensor and the truck still got low-speed activation but the pulling stopped. Now both front sensors stop reporting speed at 8.2 MPH and the rear stops at 3.75.

Ok, so I replaced the rear sensor and the results were still the same.

Next, I thought that the sensors are aftermarket so I ordered sensors from chevy and installed them. test drove the truck and guess what, they also stop reporting at 8.2 MPH, the rear at 3.75 MPH, and the ABS activated at low speed.

Being ex AF we would sometimes use a broke plane to cannibalize parts of to fix a plane that need to fly soon, so, I had access to a same year truck and I took the sensor off that truck and reinstalled the old LT sensor. Took it for a test drive monitoring the sensors and guess what,,,, the problem went away and all sensors stop reporting at 3.75MPH and the truck works great.

WTH!
can anyone explain to me what I am seeing? The ABS pump was replaced from that other donor truck to fix the original issue of the ABS system. I will have to put the donor truck back together and I need to understand these bizarre findings. otherwise, I will have to scrounge a sensor from a salvage yard.

Anyone, please help

That does sound strange. I am unaware of how the system is supposed to operate so will be interested to follow along when someone who does sheds some light on this. I would think they all need to report wheel speeds at any speed to determine slipping. Especially if connected into a traction control type system.

So to make sure I see what you mean...you took the sensor giving you issues on your truck, installed on the other truck, and that other truck worked fine?

If so, the issue is in your hub, not so much the sensor... I had the same issue on my 2006, but didn't all of the swapping. I just drove like that for a couple of years, and it was not safe really...but I certainly drove a lot slower and kept more distance between others..lol In the end, I would up replacing both front hubs, which came with new sensors pre-installed and it has worked fine since.

To finally fix the issue I went to a junkyard and salvaged a used sensor. I installed it and the issue is gone. Knowone can explain why but it seems the new sensors do not work with old hubs and you have to replace the hub and sensor. Or do as I did and salvage an old one.

I hope this helps anyone with the same issues.

I've learned with vehicle electronics, sometimes things just fix themselves. I had an issue I think I solved? This was with the windshield washer pump. Not exactly sure what I did, but I got it working again.

I've got this same ABS at low speed issues. As I come to a stop, my wheel turns slightly to the right, which means the left front abs speed sensor is going correct?
