Wireless Charging doesn't work in 2018 Silverado 1500

So I finally got a phone that did Wireless charging.
Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium.
It supports QI standards.

I tried charging in my truck and it doesn't really fit (too wide)

I watched a to of videos and it seems to just be too far away.

I took my truck apart today and i see that my wireless charging module is different then ALL the videos i've seen.

I will post pictures in the second post.

So everything taken apart is says "charging" but in fact is not charging as I wait until it goes up or down 1% (it always goes down)

Does anyone have any idea?

Unfortunately my chevy\gm dealerships within 50 miles are terrible and don't know crap so I can't go to them (except maybe saying replace this part and hand it to me).

I will be checking the voltage going to the charger sometime today.

I've never had one of these trucks with wireless charging capability. However, I have had experience with wireless chargers in general and from my experience I have found that they are finicky at best. Sometimes so much as a thin case is enough to disrupt the communication field. I remember making sure my phone was charging at night before bed only to wake up the next morning with a phone that didn't charge because at some point the connection was broken for whatever reason.

I know wireless charging is not perfect but it should work for a perfect storm.

I removed everything and plugged the charger in and placed my naked phone on the green circuit board (basically nothing between phone's coils and charger's coils and same thing.

Truck is only a couple of months old.

Trying to figure out why it doesn't work.

Find someone with a different phone and try theirs.

My fathers 2018 charges my s8+, old s6, and his note 8. Issue is the cases are too big to fit on the console so it goes in and out of charging it. Take them out of the cases and they charge just fine. If it works with a different phone then it would seem it's just your phone.

And take it to a dealer. Let it be their problem.

Mine doesn't work on my S9+ either. Even out of the case. It will light red for a moment, say its charging then stops.

Tried it on several other phones of friends as well and never could get them to charge in any orientation. Its a poor implementation from GM and just doesn't work well.

If you read above I put my phone naked on the green circuit board of the charger itself and it says it's charging but loses battery life. It never disconnects or says it's not charging

To prove a point. These chargers in these trucks are known not to work with certain phones. The latest module claims to have fixed that issue, but yours should have that newer module I believe.

But like I said, it's a 2018. Take the thing to a dealer and let them fix it. Pretty dumb to buy a new truck with warranty then not use the warranty.

I'll go to the dealership with the module in hand and see what they say. The dealerships here don't employ experienced technicians unfortunately. When I bought my 2012 Camarro their lead tech couldn't figure out how to pair my phone with Bluetooth (there's 3 different radio menus).

Depending on what they say I may try to contact LG (as they make the unit a d sell direct to GM) but they will likely say GM needs to provide support.

I wouldn't do that. They will say (and rightfully so) that you messed with the module and that's why it doesnt work.

Put it back together and either take it to your dealer or find one that is better.

That's the equivalent to taking the ecm out and bringing it to them and say the motor womt start, but here's the ecm.

Let us know how that plays out

Lol yeah. The dealership is going to look at you and laugh when you bring them a part in hand and tell them it "didn't work before you took it apart"

Put it back together and take it in, put your phone on it, show them it doesn't charge, and they will go from there. Joys of buying a new rolling computer of a truck. Sometimes everything works. Sometimes it doesn't. I've had my 2017 in a few Times for awkward programming quirks and have to take it in again here shortly.

Agreed with above. Taking it apart is easily a way for them to void that issue as you tampered with OEM equipment.

I'm not concerned with them voiding the warranty.
I'm concerned with them saying A: working as intended. or B: This isn't a Samsung or Iphone so it will not work.

I simply want to have it handy so they don't need to rip out trim (likely breaking it) to put my phone directly on it vs having it plugged in sitting on top with nothing in-between.

The dealership I use now don't have good techs. They aren't scumbags.

Worst case scenario if they can't fix it while likely will be the case maybe Ill just put my own wireless charger in it (LOL).

Thats the most backwards thinking I've seen.

But do it how you want. The warranty is there for a reason. To help out with things just like this. I know my dealer would tell you to bring them the truck in its normal operating state and then they we will work on it.

There is no way we would do anything for warranty if you brought some random module in.

And you why do you need them to tell you it's not working? I thought it was obvious it's not working with your phone. Your just looking for the dealer to see the module out of the truck, not charging your phone, and then know that you screwed around with it. Makes no sense

Ok the dealership workers are scum bags. You replace that module and it still doesn't work. What then? Move on to a next part?

You're going to spend out of pocket money for no reason. That's the whole reason for a bumper to bumper warranty. Put it back together and hope the dealership doesn't see that you screwed with it and let them fix it.

Bumper to bumper warranty is fake.

My Camaro had a bumper to bumper warranty and my rear brake led strip was defective and broke.
They refused to fix it under warranty and wanted $700 to fix it.

I had to spend the day to fix it myself.

Maybe you guys have respectful dealerships over there because in MA we don't.
Dealerships are not owned by GM and thus do whatever they want. GM can only recommend things to the dealership but the dealership has the final say as i've gone through this before.

Another time I had my car left at the dealership and they hit something with the front bumper and didn't tell me until I saw it when I went to pick-up my car. They then sent it to a third party body ship that pained the bumper and the pain fell off within 3 months and GM\the dealership refused to honor\fix it so I had to get a proper paint job myself.

I am now on Chevy dealership #2. Dealership #3 is 45 minutes away and wasn't helpful when I was trying to buy my new truck #2 was though.
