Anyone have any ideas, also it mskes griNing when put into park. No check engine light is on either. Truck will roll in nuetral.

 

Your transfer case is in neutral. Shift it out of neutral.

 

How do you do that? It has the electric switch and I've tried every selection. Auto. 2 Hi. 4 Hi and 4Lo.

 

follow the instructions in your owner's manual.

It says, and I quote:

"Shifting Out of NEUTRAL
To shift out of NEUTRAL:
1. Set the parking brake and apply the regular
brake pedal.
2. Shift the transmission to NEUTRAL (N) and turn the
ignition to RUN with the engine off.
3. Press the button for the desired transfer case shift
position (2HI, 4HI, AUTO 4WD or 4LO).
4. After the transfer case has shifted out of NEUTRAL
the red light will go out.
5. You may start the engine and shift the transmission
to the desired position."

 

This worked for my 2500HD transfer case replacement. After swap, it would not shift into R or D until I reset the TCCM using instructions shown, with the added first step of leaving battery disconnected for 4-5 hours. Thanks Regman!

 

I put it into nuetral with red light on then took it back and still nothing. Still not throwings codes.

 

If the switch indicates it has shifted out of neutral and into 2 Hi (or 4 Hi or Auto or 4 Lo) and the vehicle is still not moving, then you either have a bad transfer case or you have an internal transmission failure.

 

Hmm. The transfer case seemed fine when I moved it by hand because it was engaged. Everything moved. The transmission worked fine before the swap. Seems odd to me

 

Is it possible the clutch isn't engaging. I don't know much about automatic transmission only manuals. Does it function the same as manual with a slave clyinder.

 

Nope. Auto is alot different. Can you hear the transfer case switching when your selecting 4hi lo or 2hi

 

Yea I can hear it switch into every different 4wd and 2wd setting. Even call the chevy dealer and they sounded sorta in shock by it. The only thing I can do now is drop the transfer case again to try and diagnose this problem.

 

Does it feel like neutral? Can you move the truck while in park? Sounds like t-case stuck in neutral

 

Hey guys, so I haven't worked on the truck recently but discovered that I can push it forward and backwards as if it is in neutral when it is in park. Any ideas why this is happening?

 

Could try pulling actuator motor off TC and see if you can manually change TC. Did the new to you TC have the motor attached? Maybe swap with your old TC if it did.

 

Time to test the t-case actuator.

 

Our experience with the exact same situation, since noone will answer my post with even a possibility I will give you my experience.

1. Installed u joints, preventative, auto zone u joints were wrong for the truck (after researching on moog website). Threw u joints the next day, destroyed drive shaft and was told transfer case. Cracked adapter housing.
2. Went to wrench a part, matching np246 with RPO numbers and adapter housing, pulled it, put sensors from original case in new one, installed it, filled with oil drove off in OD and stayed in first, manually shifted to 2nd and thats all I got. Pull over, fluid leaking through small crack we did not see in case. Uninstall take back.
3. Find another with matching RPO pull and install in truck still no shift and ABS and BRAKE lights are still on. Uninstall
4. Open original case to find nothing but beautiful shiny gears, bearings, chain. Turn by hand...perfect. Put back together, gasket, seals, Install...same thing. All transfer cases worked perfect in 4 hi, 4lo, auto 4x4, 2wd. Throws no codes. Checked wheel sensors with a/c test and both good, ohm test on sensors and all wires. Wires read 4.5 except the speed sensor on right side of tailshaft read 17.6 ohms and thats got me scratching my head.
5. At least we are back to original transfer case and working sensors so that the shop can run check tomorrow. It is a pain but on a lighter note my son and I could be on a 4x4 pit crew...uninstall and intall in less than 1.5 hours.
I dont know if that helps at all but I had to share. Any questions just ask and I will tell you what I learned.

Trucks still parked it's like I have the clutch push in but I dont have one lol I can push it around in park. Same issues. Anyone get there's fixed and what did you do. Parts guys said it was a good working tcase.

 

update your accounts signature to include the year/make/model/engine/trim level and type of transfer case

 

Is a 2008 chev silverado crew cab. Changed the transfer case and now wont go into gear.

 

i’m having the same exact issue and i am lost on what to do. i have replaced transfer case, transmission, tcm, tccm, ecm/pcm, checked all fuses, and still nothing

What red light are you guys talking about because I'm having this same issue right now and the o it red light I see is the e brake light but mine is grinding going into park after I changed the tc adapter plate but my truck is stuck on the side of the road in Oakland and it won't last long it's already been here for 3 weeks but I need help like asap

 

a) do you have the same truck as the o.p.?
b) consider reading the owners manual for your truck?

 

Your truck has been sitting along the road for three weeks and hasn't been towed to the impound?

 

Or being looted/vandalized or have squatters living in it.

 

Does it work the same way for a '92 because I'm having the same exact problems
