AC Delco 41-110 to 41-162

I'm needing to change plugs on my 2012 silverado 5.3 coming up on 90k miles. Has anyone changed out to the AC Delco 41-162 plugs? It seems the 41-110 plugs are no longer recommended though that's what came in it from the factory. I've done searches and can't seem to find if the 162s are better for MPG or anything else... I did read that the 162s are possibly shorter in spark plug reach so it seems like there should be some kind of performance/MPG or ??? difference. Somebody has to have changed over to the 162s so thanks in advance for any answers.

Here was a thread on it. One guy in the thread did use teh 41-162. No comments on difference in performance. I would not expect any.

Well, I swapped out my factory 41-110 iridium plugs this past summer for identical 41-110 iridium plugs. The original set came out at 110K and they were still in great shape. I expect to get another 100k trouble free miles out of this set as well. First I heard they changed to the 41-162 plugs.

Thank you for the reply. I did read that thread before my post but it really didn't answer much for me. Also, on another thread somewhere else I read that the 162s are a bit shorter. I would have to think if 162s are shorter and further up in the cylinder head spark plug channel it would make some sort of difference in performance or miles per gallon. I'll go to the store and pull the 110s and the 162s out of their boxes and compare and let you guys know how much shorter. It just seems that the spark happening tucked further up into the cylinder head channel would seem to not be as efficient - but maybe it doesn't matter or maybe there's another reason for GM wanting that now...

Take some side by side pictures if you can and post them back here. I changed with the 110's back at 100ish k and plan to do it again at 200k. It will be more based on price for me unless there is some real world power-performance-fuel efficiency differences made clear between then and now. Interested in what you find.

I am also curious what you find out between the two. As mentioned by others, I've changed out a set of 41-110's at 100,000 miles and was amazed at how well the electrode condition looked. I am coming up on another 100,000 in a another couple weeks but am debating about just pulling to inspect a couple and possible running another 25,000 miles on this set. I purchased a new set of 41-110's in anticipation of the change out and the box states warrantied for 100,000 miles or 7 years. There are lots of junk chinese knockoffs floating around on ebay and 3rd party sellers on amazon so I would give them a good inspection no matter which route you go. I had a co-worker who purchased from a reputable store but had 4 of the 8 that were knockoffs. In this case it looked like someone purchased a cheap knockoff set then swapped them with a store purchased set and returned the knockoffs to the store.

Looks like the center electrode on the 41-162 is a fair bit different.

You are on the right track, but you are backwards. The 41-110 is made by Denso and is the factory Delco plug (it is a rebadged Denso #ZTJ16R10 plug). The 41-162 is made by NGK and is the recommended Delco replacement (it is a rebadged NGK #IZTR5B11 plug).

The 41-162 (NGK) is spaced to .043" while the 41-110 (Denso) is spaced to .040". The 41-162 (NGK) has a 0.6mm tip while the 41-110 (Denso) has a 0.4mm tip.

Either one will suffice, there's really no difference between these two. Go with whichever is cheapest. Hope this settles it.

2013 Silverado 4.8L . . . 41-110 vs 41-162 plugs
Thanks for the pics, Bill. Same here, just passing 95k / 8.5 years. A couple of years ago as I began lining up notes 41-162 was not coming up as the replacement. Definite electrode nibbling on the 41-110.

Just back from another 5,500 trip, I was nailing 23+ mpg at conservative mph, about 19.5mpg overall, but see deep jailbait numbers on city mpg. I'll be swapping in the 41-162 plugs before winter. Want to figure out how to get spec 11-13 ft lbs by feel.

My transmission oil / filter, the shop advises to leave alone for now.

My 2013 GMC Sierra had a mis firing plug for a while, so I finally changed it today, god what difference it made, only thing is the store gave me 41-162 , the one I took out was 41-110 ,, it sure runs, idols starts a lot better, so I guess I have to change out the other 7 plugs in order to notice any difference any where, just hoping my milage is nt worse than it is, in town lately 13.9 mph, highway unknown at this point, btw my truck and spark plug has 132,062 mikes on it, do maybe it is time to change out the other plugs, any comments are appreciated, Thank you

EDIT: Just noticed this is the 5.3L sub-forum. My truck is a 4.8L

I went in circles for a while and finally figured out 41-162 "replaced" 41-110. But I was able to source the ACDelco OEM 41-110 set, as well as ACDelco 748UU spark plug wire set. These short wires go from the coils to the plugs.

One of my plugs had too tight a gap. I got a new replacement rather than regap the plug.

13.9 mpg is about average in stop/go traffic. It's only been 100 miles since my swap but I think my mpg has slightly increased. Here's that plug'n'wire swap thread:

For what it's worth, I swapped out the 110s for 162s in my '11 5.3L about a thousand miles ago and can't really tell the difference from either a power or fuel economy standpoint. That said, she's got 170k on the clock so not exactly on her peak game either way....
