Hey fellas. Recently I had a check engine light code throw for my "oil pressure sensor" my oil pressure was lower than usual (15 idling and 22 driving) I was like oh okay no biggie just the sensor is bad, checked the oil level and it was full. I replaced the sensor but still no change. Here is where I start getting worried. So I start digging into the forum and came across a guy here on silveradosierra that had the same problem. He said he changed brand oil filters and it fixed his problem. At first, I was skeptical but I was due for a oil change anyways so it couldn't hurt. I went to AutoZone to pick up a filter and decided to go with a Bosch Premium 3334 this time instead of the AcDelco PF48E. I compared the 2 filters and the Bosch appears to be a much better built filter. The AcDelco has a plastic screen where the Bosch is metal so I was like hmm. Fast forward to start up after the new filter and oil and WALAH! Problem fixed! My oil pressure is back to normal and no check engine code. My good friend that's a technician at the local stealer even said the new AcDelco filters are JUNK! I've always ran AcDelco oil filters but after that I will not! Hope this helps some folks! Might want to reconsider those AcDelco filters next time!

I have been running the junk AC Delco filters for years. No problems. How long since your last oil change? How many miles on your truck? Was the filter gunked up or what?

Yeah, the E at the end is what to look out for. Without the E, if you can find them, should still be ok.

I use K&N filters, because they filter just as good, and have the 1" nut for easy removal.

I switched from ACDelco filters on all of my vehicles (Silverado, Yukon, Corvette) to Mobil 1 oil filters. I've torn both apart and they are substantially different inside. My opinion is the Mobil 1 filters are built better inside.

I would expect the Mobil 1 to be substantially better for the price difference.

A quick search says they are manufactured by Champion Labs not Fram. Info mostly coming from forum sites though.

Maybe you could supply the proof to back up that claim, Rick? It was always my understanding that Wix made ACD filters until recently with the E-Core line of ACD filters which are made by Champion labs. But it seems you know exactly what is going on with AcDelco filters history by the Fram claim so I'll let you explain to those of us that are less informed.

I used to use AC-Delco PF48 until they switched to the E-core. I tried Wix and they were fine, but it seemed like my oil pressure was down a couple PSI with them...it bothered me. Then, I tried a Mobil1 and my oil pressure is back to 38, where I expect it. A couple PSI isn't really an issue, but it still bothers me. With my local Walmart now carrying the Mobil1 for under $10 now, it makes it an easy choice.

But I won't use the PF48E, E-core filters. I understand the "E" stand for Envirmentally friendly. I just don't see insides of a used oil filter being a solution to our pollution problem and I don't see the reasoning for changing a good product for that reason. In many cases, environmentally friendly also means less effective.

No, I just know how to look stuff up. Wix made them, then Champion. But Fram Filtration bought and merged Champion and I think one or two other companies.

So yes, Fram owns and controls the Champion brand, which is where E-Core ACD filters are made.
