You were expecting to spend only $50 for a tuner that can do an afm delete?
No, I previously had my tunes fort afm delete done for $50. 30-40 of em anyway, just turnaround time was a week or more. seems to be even longer with the predator since engineering cant seem to figure it out. so spent more got less. Will be returning to dependable and slow for the future.

Yup. And based on his post and screen name, it seems he is in the auto repair business which makes this whole thing sound even more strange. Doesn’t sound too professional of an operation to me if he doesn’t know you can’t do the delete tune with a basic handheld thingy.
Actually you can, (maybe not it seems, but has worked for others or I would not have purchased) after all the hard parts are replaced, but I will be returning to my go-to guy that has done the last 30-40 was just trying to save some turnaround time for the customer, after AMS racing, and Diablosport, assured me I should add their device to the hard parts kit. My only intention was to decrease wait time for customer.

Do you have a custom tune on the Predator you are trying to load? AFAIK, you can't tune AFM delete with just a canned handheld tune.

@06MonteSS
No was assured by AMS Racing, and Diablosport that the Predator X, would accomplish what was needed. Customer requested it as with my typical delete jobs ECM is sent off for tune and AFM delete. An attempt at saving time, by request, but will return to using what works without fail, or need for any tech calls or waiting on engineering. supposed to be "canned" basic tunes, with a small amount of customization. AFM delete being the important one.

Why not buy your own tuning interface?
EFI Live or HP Tuners
It's a 10 minute job to read the tune, disable DOD and codes, license ECM and flash updated tune.
It is in the plans, but haven't decided which route would be best. Not interested in tuning other than AFM, and torque converter issues. have been researching HP Tuners, but their rates are really not all that great for what we need. also researching a few others, and we will eventually do our own, but for now the diablosport was a one time thing at customer request which we will not be willing to do again. haven't looked into EFI live, but we will. Thanks for the lead.

HPT is the cheapest way to go about it. Its $100 for each ECM to be able to program it.
EFI cost more for initial investment and its $125 for each ECM.

Thanks, HPT costs for AFM delete varies by year group, but seems to be fairly straightforward, and has capabilities above and beyond what I need. Had a conversation with EFI and they admitted they may not be exactly what I was looking for, as we are repair only, not a performance shop, at least as far as tuning. Thanks for the info, always good to have new avenues to look into. We even considered Diablo, but the $165 per vehicle is not really economical for what we need. for a person wanting to do their own tuning, and such it could be ok, but too much for single use per vehicle.

What? No. No interest in hacking anything.
Then what did you mean by "do you own"? You mentioned researching HP Tuners and others to doing this, but they are expensive,...and then you wrote "we will eventually do our own", which would mean you make your own tuner software instead of using HP Tuners or others.

Sorry I have missed this guys. I have the Predator X it does AFM delete just fine. It has 3 preset canned tunes for the ecm and 2 preset tcm tunes. Both allow you to customize things like torque management, afm delete, manual shift 2-3 override, tire size, rev limit, speed limiter, shift rpm pt/wot, shift pressure pt/wot, tow haul shift rpm / line pressure. For the price and for what it accomplishes I’m a very happy owner of this product. I don’t really need anything more than what this thing does in my truck. I hope this helps those out who are wondering about the predator x. Also I was told that the plans are to add features that will allow people to purchase options for custom tunes like the intune allows, but right now you can go with the customizations on the canned tunes or you can also modify the stock ecm/tcm tunes with the options I mentioned above. If you are on a budget and want afm gone then this works perfect. If you have customizations below the heads then spend the extra money and get a custom tune from Lew. Good luck guys!

Are you sure of that? It appears to be a relatively cheap handheld tuner for canned tunes. I would guess it's more likely it just does a disable, and not a delete. There's a difference.

Well i am positive it is not active but no it of course doesnt physically delete the afm. It completely turns it off and in my book that qualifies as a delete generally speaking. The only true way to ā€œdeleteā€ it is to remove it and canned or custom tune doesn’t really matter when it comes to that does it?

It's different. The o.p. is doing an actual delete, and was looking around for a cheaper/faster tuner to reprogram the ecm to do the delete in there after deleting the hardware.

Just disabling it prevents the system from activating, it may or may not prevent the lifters from failing, as they can and have failed whether the system is disabled or not.

Btw I’m aware of the difference of completely removing the afm function from the tables in a custom tune as opposed to Just turning the function off/on, and to my understanding it’s just more or less something to clean up in the tuning tables for ease of tuning and data logging.

If I’m getting a full delete of hardware then a disabled afm function would serve the same purpose as completely removing afm from the code altogether.

And if you are not removing the hardware then disabling or deleting is still not preventing the hardware from failing. So is there really a difference??

The only time a canned vs custom tune matters is on the newer trucks with the slightly different DFM system, I have heard in some instances where turning it off with a regular canned tune isnt always enough, and a custom tune must be written specifically to disable all the codes that come with a delete as well. Doesnt happen all the time, but have seen this on some of the newer trucks.
