Hello boys I’m not sure any of you are interested in this but I’ll share either way. I’m sure there has to be another crazy like
Me out there that does not like being tracked!

so under our dash on the driver side in between the brake pedal and accelerator pedal you will have a LG module which has the two antenna plugs going into to it which I believe one is purple the other brown and one connector with multiple wires on the other end. What you want to do is unplug the two antenna plugs and then unscrew the two small torque screws that are located between both plugs. Once the torque screws are removed grab the ports where the antennas plug into and pull out you will end up with the onstar module/chip in your hand. Now the onstar buttons will be completely off and the truck will not try nor have any communication with on star at all.

You are a genius, THANK YOU!! I removed mine and here is a little useful info for all: If you remove the air duct by unscrewing the 9/32 bolt on it's left, you can then easily access and unplug the LG module assembly from its case, drop it down, and remove the 2 T8 screws holding the LG card in while the antenna cables are still attached and pull it free of the assembly. Maybe you could stop right here, but I did not. I never figured out how the antenna cables are meant to unplug, but they snap off without any apparent damage if you use a flat screw driver to pop them off. I did this over 2 weeks ago, and the only bad thing I have noticed so far is that my clock no longer keeps accurate time. It was about 8 minutes slow today and I had to reset it by going into settings. I am planning a trip in a few weeks, and I assume the clock will not automatically change when I cross time zones...we will see. Regardless, I am onto it. Otherwise, the OnStar is completely gone, and Google can no longer get any info on my truck - including listening to conversations in the cab. I do not use any of the GM supplied Internet apps - just what is on my phone. My truck is off the GM/Google grid!!! Thank you again!!

I wouldn't say it is completely disabled. Sure you disabled the lights but did you find the camera that is watching everything you do?

The fact people can't realize this is insane. Any modern phone is a tracking device that is basically glued to you.

I finally did this uninstall on my ‘22 Silverado 2500HD and it was located in the same area. I did it this afternoon, on 08/08/24. After the uninstall I did notice that the truck’s compass on the instrument cluster stopped working. So, if you don’t mind losing the compass, then it’s worth removing the OnStar Module. I also forgot to mention that I lost microphone function. As long as you use your phone on speaker, people will hear you just fine.

I work for a Tier 1 supplier to carmakers. In the industry that’s called a DCM module. LG is a competitor to the one my company offers, and a few other companies make them as well.

Disabling it should also disable OTA software updates…which, based on the number of bricked systems I see posted, might be a good thing.

Yup that's why I did it also. GM shouldn't touch MY truck without asking first. It's the bad part of software designed systems, if it's "Good enough" get it out there, we'll fix it later. I deal with this mentality all day long at work.

New member here, this is exactly what i was looking for ! Combining posts #1 and 12 does the trick. For those of you looking for a way to properly disconnect the antenna connectors, first drop the LG card with the antennas still attached (as described in post #12). Then move the red sliders upward.

Next, put a small screwdriver in the rectangular pocket as displayed in the pics and push connector upward.

Voila, the LG card is now stored in a dark place and will be handed over when I sell the vehicle :)

The "tracking problem"? LOL. Do you have a cell phone?

Yes, a de-googled one. What about you ? Let me guess : android or IOS, signed in with you real name and phone number, so Google or Apple can sell your info to data brokers ?
General Motors is no different. They pretend OnStar is there for your safety. Some people even believe they are going to get cheaper insurance through this. The only thing that will happen is that something is recording your driving behavior and your conversations in the car. All of this will be sold for marketing purposes and in the event of an accident used against you.
I can't believe how naive people can be.

Pulled the cables out and removed the two small torx screws (all of this is much easier after you pull the plastic vent tube) just as DatLZ0 described. You do lose GPS and therefore your compass. I am thinking one of the cables is the GPS and the other the Cellular comms so I am going to try to put the card back in and attached one of the cables that gives me GPS. Your thoughts?

I did the same to my truck. The only regret is the loss of the GPS, which keeps time and your dash compass. I was thinking one of those cable is for the GPS and the other for cellular. I plan to put the card back in and experiment with the cable.

It records your biometrics and blood type then sends it to a secret satellite hidden on the dark side of the moon. Not much is known what happens after that, but some say it is used to clone people.

Did you guys see Israel blowing up all the pagers and cell phones, did you see Michael Hastings car slam into a tree. I am worried the government, could hijack control of our vehicles and smash us into a wall... Say the wrong thing, maybe in the future AI will have permission to do as it pleases... I am willing to loose navigation to be disconnected from Big Brother.... Put your cell phone in an RFID blocker too...

It was pagers yesterday and walkie talkies today.
Yet here you are on an electronic device posting on the internet. Well unless you mailed your post into an admin to post for you but then again they could plant a mail bomb...

If someone, somewhere, whether they are part of the government or not, somehow comes to the decision that they would like you to be dead, and they are even remotely competent, you will be dead. The only real detail, which would be utterly unimportant to you, would be if the investigators can figure out who did it and get them convicted or not.

From what little I read about the first incident with pagers, I believe Hezbollah recenly got in a big batch of new ones to distribute, wouldn't surprise me if they were modified prior to arrival.

There are a couple of (legal) issues at play which made me remove the LG module.

1] My contract with the GMC dealer was to purchase a car, nothing more, nothing less. Most probably the fine print includes stipulations that they can sell the data acquired through onstar to data brokers. If this is the case, this should be made clear and result in a discount (Netflix also gives a discount if they can run ads by you, don't they ?). GM seems to run some background business selling data without explicitly informing their customers. Go into your settings and look at the data Sirius collects...why on earth do they need your phone and other data ? Wake up people, you are the product and you're not being compensated. Conversely, if you're not interested being compensated for sharing (possibly private) data, what about your privacy rights ? Correct...the fine print...It's a good thing this is currently the subject of a lawsuit in TX, these are predatory practices that should not be allowed.

2] I saw an argument in one of the threads above that we can only stop 1% of the data collection. Please don't roll over and give up. Think through the situation and address the issue. Disable following items from collecting your data : a) car (explained in this thread) ; b) TV (microphones embedded in TV and often remote); c) cell phone. On the latter, I am happy to report that the car couldn't even detect my phone when the dealer tried to talk me into connecting through the GMC app. I won't go into detail on this matter, but look into running a Pixel phone on open source such as GrapheneOS.

3] While OnStar is sold as a safety device, I think the risk far exceeds the benefits. Something that records your every move can be collected during criminal proceedings and be used against you. As somebody who has worked parts of his career in executive compliance roles I have seen our government at work and it isn't pretty. Some DA offices will throw the most insane allegations against the wall and hope they will stick. Some of the famous ones such as the Southern District of NY DA office now measure ROI (return on investment) on their cases. These maggots will gladly claim you were parked at a strip club even if you were at the Walmart next door, just to stack the cards and the court of public opinion against you. There is no honor among thieves. There was a period in my life where I was of the opinion that 'I have nothing to hide'. Wrong. This does not help you when you deal with legal predators, and the US is full of them.

4] Lastly, a buddy of mine works as a government protection agent. What do you think they do when they receive a batch of Suburbans ? So, if ineffective, why would they go through the effort of disabling it for themselves ?

Yep if you don't get rid of onstar you will be hanging in a slaughter house.
If you really wanted to be safe you would drive an old car with no computers and stay off the internet but you won't. Looks like you may be headed for the slaughter house... o_O

Remember, the tinfoil hat not only makes your hair look bad, it also makes you a nut.

Even with an old car, you'd have to watch-out for traffic cameras, security cameras, dash cams in other cars, etc. What we need is an invisibility cloak.
