With my local weather conditions and driving habits, rain X does not work for me. Can anyone tell me how to remove rain X from my windshield?

You can use multiple things but this stuff works excellent, not only for removing Rain X but just about anything

I think dawn dish soap would do the trick. I don't know if it's safe but maybe something with a solvent to it.

I am in Central Virginia. There are times when the humidity is high and windshield temperature is below the dew point - say I am leaving to go fishing in the morning or coming off the river late in the evening.

Worst times are when driving at night in the rain or when driving into the sun (early or late), the wipers smear and leave a thin film.

Brand new windshields on two cars and both with new wipers. The rain-x came from washer fluid left over from before the new windshields.

Also, sometimes at night the smear makes it hard to see with oncoming car lights.

I just washed them twice with Dawn, will try to report back.

So, the truck had Rain-X washer fluid? I’ve used Rain-X washer fluid many times and never had any smears. 🤷‍♂️ On fact, I think I have that stuff in my truck right now and the windshield is nice and clean.

Also just yesterday treated all of the new glass shower enclosures in our house with Rain-X. We’ll see how that works. Contractor offered to “treat” them for 200 or what ever extra bucks. Yeah, no thanks.

The question is how to remove Rain-x, not whether or not Rain-x works. I know Rain-x is a great product and millions of people love it...nonetheless I have issues.

Once I have the Rain-x out of the equation and I still have the problems, then I'll have to look at other possible causes, but I was starting with what I thought was the most obvious.

Found this which is exactly my issue:
Windshield smearing even with new Wipers ?Rain X | Toyota Nation Forum

and this - which describes removing Rain-x with a polishing compound:
RainX smearing issue | Detailing World Forum

I'll try SierraHarley's recommendation of Rain-X Cleaner.

The other option is to actually APPLY Rain-x with the product on a part of the passenger side.

Thanks.

Someone else on here complained about Rain X washer fluid putting smears on their windshield. I'll see if I can find it.

All you need is that rain x xtreme clean to remove rain x and it’s less than $10. No need to make it complicated.

Do you by any chance have oem wipers? This truck is the first I have had with nightime rain vision issues due to the smearing effect you describe. I have not used ANY rain x product, just standard blue fluid due to gm saying not to use any rain x in fluid. On all other vehicles, the rain x premixed fluid has been awesome without issue. I have cleaned the windshield many times and the smearing comes back. I suspect the wipers are degrading. I have new wipers to try.

on removing rain x from windshield, the xtreme clean works very well.

We used Rain X on patrol car windshields all the time.
A driving rain over 100 mph and just shut the wipers off.
Could see better than with the wipers.
Yes, it does smear a bit on light rain but I easily live with it.
Rain X is magical stuff?

I now also use PIAA Pure Silicone wiper blade refills.
These are now over 10 years old on my 99 Silverado and still wipe just perfectly.
The truck is in the garage most of the time though.
I feel they have lasted this long being out of the sun and elements.
They are rather high priced but I think worth the cost.

Thanks for the information. Usually when I drive around at 100 mph+ there are no issues, the wiper blades just fly off the truck and so does the rain and the little bicycles and trash cans. It is only when I'm going at 95 mph and below do I get a little smear - very annoying......LOL

Don’t forget to coat your shower curtain with rain x.
Don’t bother coating your soap with it though, all it does is bead up and won’t lather properly.

Ok, in preparation for the next rain or very humid conditions, today I am going to treat passenger side window with 1/3 vinegar/water solution, 1/3 RainX Cleaner, and 1/3 Dawn soap (second application). Will try to remember to report back.
