I ended up here because I had the same problem during a trip this weekend. I was 4 hours into a drive when the lights and warnings came on and then the power steering went out. The "Service ESC" warning and the "Service Power Steering - No Assist Soon" warnings came on. The power assist on the steering went out a few minutes later. Luckily, I was on the highway with little traffic at 1am when the power steering went out. I continued about 15 minutes to the next stop where I stayed for the night. I let it sit overnight and started it up in the morning, finding the same warnings coming up and no power steering. I tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computers to no avail. I checked for blown fuses and loose connections. It was Sunday and no dealerships were open from Nevada to Colorado. It's a 2019 with 47000 miles. Will have to see what the dealer says this week.

My 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Trail Boss LT Z71 is currently in the shop. For the second time this month. Less than 50k miles and still under warranty. They just diagnosed the electronic steering rack as the culprit. Round one - my entire brake system went out mid drive 🤦 Truck wouldn’t accelerate, steering got super tight, dash lit up like a Christmas tree as I held the brake pedal down to the floorboard resulting in nothing but empty promises. As I coasted to a stop in the middle of a 5 lane road, the rapid fire of concerns came in like a wrecking ball. Obviiiii I played it cool.. snapped a pic of the dash, called the other half for assistance, turned off the truck and finished my breakfast cuz why not. Nothing to see here 🤚 “Service trailer brake system” and “ABS brake system failure” was illuminated on the dash. As was the traction control icon, but when I engaged the switch it said TC off 🤷 After about 15 min, I turned the truck back on and all the lights disappeared.. sure enough, it drove justtt dang fine! I got it back to the house and scheduled a service appointment… had them tow it to be safe cuz not today, Chevy 😒 Needless to say, it took them 2 days to diagnose it a low voltage issue and I paid $365 for a new OEM battery… 🤦 Second time, I went to leave for work.. started my truck and the steering wheel was locked up. “Service power steering drive with care” and “service ESC” lit up the dash. Also with the TC icon illuminated. After a quick google search, a few choice words and phone calls to the service department.. manager.. I started the truck again. All lights disappeared and truck was back to normal. 👏🏼 MIND 👏🏼 BLOWN 👏🏼 I’m currently driving a 2023 Silverado rental, compliments of Chevy and Enterprise. I’m waiting for it to self ignite since it’s 3 years newer 🥴 They just don’t make em like they used to.

2020 GMC AT4, 5.3L, 10-speed, 32k miles.

I was on a trip in early May, 5 hours from home. Bad timing for an electrical problem. I've never had a problem before, the truck has been perfect.

I had just driven about 550 miles in the previous 1.5 days. We stop for dinner, come out and start my truck. The Service Power Steering and Service ESC light up the dash like a Christmas tree. Driving with no electric steer is both difficult and dangerous. But I limped it about 2 miles to our hotel and jumped on the forums.

Sadly, GM-Trucks.com has an 11 page thread about this issue in 2019-2020 GM's. So strange, but the solution was to wait 20 minutes and restart the truck. I did that (it was more like a half hour) and sure enough, it worked perfectly again. Strangest damn thing I have ever experienced with a vehicle. Upsetting.

That was at 30k miles (yes, I put 2k on in about 4 weeks). It has not recurred. I don'k know what happened, whether it downloaded its own software patch, "rebooted," or reset in some way, but it self-resolved (at least for now). According to others, some dealerships are saying they've never heard of such a thing, others are saying they've heard it but not seen it. It seems like one of those things that is common enough to be concerned, but not so common that a TSB was issued or a recall exists.

I still don't have a good answer as to what happened, but am throwing this out there in case anyone else experiences it.

How did u resolved

I have a 2019 Silverado RST double cab 2wd. 19K miles. On 2/26/2022 was leaving a store. Started the truck and had the same steering malfunction. It took a 5 point turn to get out of parking space. Made one more turn and gave up. It should not say drive with care, it should say car îs disabled. It was too dangerous to drive like that. I shut it off and restarted and it worked normally.

It would be catastrophic if this occurred while truck was at speed on a busy roadway or if you were in danger and had to leave right away.
Did it happen again and how did u fixed it

Hi there, same thing happened to me on a 2021 Silverado Trailboss. ESC and Power steering failure came up. I went on the forums.. waited 30 min and no problem. BUT i am taking it to the chevy dealer and have it checked out. I have 12,000 miles on it. Will update the forum here. View attachment 948176 View attachment 948176
What's the update how u solved it

Update Dealership found the following: B99 SASmodule had only 2.3 volts on the supply ckt 2087 the root cause to be terminal #40 ckt 2087was partially backed out of connector of the I/P side of connector x225.reseated terminal within the body and that fixed the issue. So there you have it LOL. Kudos to the mechanic in troubleshooting. He received no resolution from GMTAC. He backprobed to find the problem. Hope this can be of help to someone with the same issue.
So I have a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation X31 and it started out with the Service Trailer Brakes warning and then now it shows Service Power Steering and Service ESC. When I start the vehicle and while in Park , if I move the steering wheel all the warnings pop up and the wheel jerks a little. Also the backup camera comes on. I have read like 20 different forums and tons of people saying similar issues but absolutely no one other than you have mentioned a fix. I am wondering if you had more information? Location and is my issue similar to yours? Thank you

I'd love to hear about anybody solutions to this. My 2019 1500 AT4 (pretty much loaded and aprox 115k miles now) just starting doing it a couple weeks ago and has basically been in the shop since. I sent them a couple of the "solutions" on this page (which they paid zero attention to) and just now texted me saying they think they have found the problem and it won't be cheap basically. Same story, all the esc, power steering, trailer brakes, lane departure you name it suddenly pop up. Mine only happens at low speed (like turning pulling out of the driveway) and has never been an issue once at higher rpm, running down the road/highway. Issue will simply vanish and truck performs perfectly if wait a few minutes and restart (tried different wait times, it basically corrected itself every time. Anyway, I will report back, but it sounds like the dealer is going to tell me wiring harness, power steering rack or the like. Other than some electronic issues right when I bought it it has been flawless.... and all 1/2 ton brake systems are horrible (rotor size, quality) cannot be stated enough.

2020 Silverado (60,000) Have you all experienced it more than once? This happened to me over the weekend and thank goodness for this thread. I waited 30 minutes and turned it back over and it was working fine. I’m nervous to send my teenage daughter out in the truck now. What was everyone doing leading to the issue? Leading up to this issue, I drove 20 minutes to the local landfill to drop off some extra trash bags that wouldn’t fit in the bin. Needed to go into 4 wheel drive because it was a very rough and bumpy terrain. I then went back into 2 wheel to the automatic carwash and then stopped at the hardware store where I turned it off for the first time since leaving the house. Coming out of the hardware store (give or take 20 minutes) turned the truck over and had the issue.

Update: mine is still in the shop, was supposed to pick it up this morning but tech said the check engine light came on. (It can't be overstated how perfect this truck has been since Oct 2018, and somehow magically when this thing started it (all the dings, buzzers, lights happen at the exact same moment, from perfect to when start the turn out of driveway it all happens), suddenly requires multiple different parts to fix it? And now after those parts the check engine light is coming on? (1st time ever), I mean, when this is happening to brand new trucks sitting on the lot today how is GM not stepping up? We all know the answer to that one but at a certain point you have to make a decision whether you're trying to be the best or just like all the rest. My pick up is delayed til late morning now in the hopes they resolve the check engine light. At this point they have changed the power steering rack (I'm guessing mildly corroded elec connection that somehow requires complete rack replacement (read $thousands), and grounding straps.... what I know is this, if you have an electrical issue you start with the basics.... check power, ground, connections.... at this point the odds of being told that at the exact same moment, sporadic at best, in between everything is perfect, that somehow now 3 different things fail then correct themselves then fail exact same time again some other random day? 1 month without truck, no loaner offered (nor asked for), and GM will happily take as much money from me as possible without standing up for what is right?
I'll give as much info as I can after it is fixed to try to offer insight. 🍻

As crazy as this may sound, I felt like I knew that if I got past the first 10 seconds (like pulling out of the driveway) that it would be fine, I felt like at higher rpm I was confident nothing would happen, nor did it when ultimately this issue popped up maybe 5-8 times between initial occurance and getting it into the shop. Even at that point it was so sporadic that I would change the battery, clean connections, and it would go away. The thing that prompted me to take it to the dealer was the specific connector mentioned by another poster in this thread, which I conveyed to the dealer, and they completely ignored, instead going through their own diagnosis, throwing parts at it, and the update is it's still throwing codes.

Wish I could tell you that it's entirely safe for your daughter to drive, I have boys so I didn't care as much. lol. Kidding of course.

Same to similar issues on my `19 as well!! Steering has been fine but i get all the other bing and bongs pop up on the info dash.
On the way to dealer it all happened after the same situation as yours.
Started fine, check engine light off after it was on, the last time I parked in garage about a week before.
Soon as I turned right out of driveway got Check trailer brakes and brake assist warnings.
Then at end off street did another right hand turn and it goes bing bonging again this time Engine power educed check engine light on now!
Pretty hard to read all the dash warnings when your trying to pay attention driving!!!
drove fine with NO other issues all the way to dealer, half hr away.
Been at dealer fora a week and they say they have no clue what is causing this.Even GM tech involved to no help. The dealer tech is stumped on it.Only thing found maybe was a bit low voltage on the OG battery.
Had a front body to frame ground replaced about 4 months ago(see my Check Your Grounds thread) and everything seemed fine until 4th of July weekend coming home from vaca when it all started over again and then some!!
It usually all starts for me with a low fuel warning all, gauge sweep, then bing and bongs warning text on dash.
It seems even worse when pulling a trailer.Went into limp mode had to pull over and shut down to restart then drove home ok with one more bingbong warning mishap.
Amazingly got a customer service case number after reaching out on Instagram Gm Customer Service.
They have been in contact with dealer and been actually pretty good on getting back to me through Instagram messaging.
They were putting in new battery for $420 plus tax to see since it was there and then test it out for more/any codes.
There is an intermittent short in the system !!! Or faulty module somewhere!!!
I only have 16880mi on mine as its mostly a garage king.Minty with very little underneath rust as I dont drive it much in winter.
I wish there was a way to completely turn all that BULLDUNG off!!!
All I need is the antilock brakes and trailer brakes connection! ALL the other bullDUNG is whats causing ALL these issues!!!!!!

Update..3? Dealer was hoping to have truck ready by end of (last) week, then could not get check engine light to go away and stay away (Check engine light has NEVER come on at any time in the almost 6 years since it was brand new).... and now it appears most of the codes are now involving the (OG) battery (which i indicated when i dropped it off that it was the OG battery (never been anywhere close to an issue) but if the problem isn't an obvious fix that the battery....being OG....may be a candidate to replace before getting into anything crazy.... then it got crazy, no mention of the battery at all for the first 6 weeks it was at the dealership.... now it may be something? Hint: in 6 weeks i run the truck pretty darned regularly (every day).... anyway, they were supposed to get me a loaner vehicle aprox noon today and said they were working on it and would get back to me....they didn't so now tomorrow it gets to ramp up yet again. Where is GM on this issue? nowhere.
I'm starting to fear i will not have a definitive solution for you all with this. Not many seem to...

Update 4: It's gonna be a big day today i think!
After 6+ weeks and my truck going in and out of the service bay (because, according to the dealer, GM has pressured them to get higher priority warranty work vehicles worked on) and them destroying an almost brand new BFG AT trying to repair the worlds slowest leak (picked up a screw somewhere) and being told the tire was paid for personally by the advisor somehow.. sorry, off topic... back on now, and both in booking the service and when dropping it off i gave them the info (screengrab text and email) of where to start looking (thanks to "gacampbell54" on this chat) and next to look perhaps in the direction of the OG battery (picked up truck new in OCT 2018) they called me yesterday with a big revelation (even though i reminded them throughout that its basically impossible for multiple things to light up at the exact same time and then magically turn off (warnings/buzzers/the like) at the exact same time for it to be indeed multiple different things failing. It has to be a basically a single common thing that is failing.....anyway, the revelation is that after much deep diving they have discovered, wait for it, that they think it is a single pin on the serial bus that is causing "all these new issues" since they replaced the steering rack, the grounding straps on the tank (read $4k plus like has been mentioned multiple times on this chat).
I am so eagerly waiting to see the repair explanation and then the invoice... to which i'm going to pull my phone out and show them the email i sent them while dropping the truck off pinpointing that this was most likely the issue and where to start their investigation if it stumps them at all. The same email that when chatting a couple days after dropping it off when they were starting to say they couldn't figure it out and i mentioned the serial bus (and the email i had sent, and talked about while there) to them they said they didn't see an email and then found it in their junk (supposedly) and promised that the tech had this email and this information for sure, that somehow, after throwing parts at the problem and it only getting 10X worse that it all comes back to a "simple fix" and that "100% we have it now and your truck will be ready to go after lunch tomorrow!" (which is today).

I sincerely hope they don't expect I'm going to just fork over thousands of dollars for this "$50 fix" in reality?

Id be willing to give them $500 for their troubles, even though they didnt liste n one iota to what i asked them do/look at, if not easy to diagnose once plugged in. But i sure as poop wont be giving them the $4500 they will be looking for .... that old steering rack will be going back in and so will the grounding straps.... that I'm absolutely positive were not the issue at any time.

GM better get ready for a little chat on this. They could do so much better if they just weren't so distracted by raping every little dollar. The others wouldn't stand a chance. I've owned aprox 25 GM vehicles personally and my next will be GM as well barring something gobsmacking so make no mistake, we are all fans but ridiculous is just that.

My '19 Silverado lt was throwing all kinds of lights, and going into low power mode almost every time I backed the truck up. I finally started doing a little research online and found a tsb about wire chafing issues at or around the ecm at the front left tire. Finally today I removed the inner fender and looked at the harness coming off of the ecm, I peeled back some tape, and found 4 different wires were being cut by a piece of plastic almost directly behind the left bolt of the upper control arm. 3 of them were almost cut completely in half. I bandaged it up, and hopefully will not have any more issues. However, according to the tsb I found there are several areas where this can happen, hopefully I found my only issue. I will try to post what I found, hopefully this helps someone else that is having issues. Oh yeah, there’s another guy at work having the same issue as me, sounds to me like gm knows about it too. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10200147-9999.pdf

Same exact thing happened to my 2022 Silverado. But mine is also saying “Brake Assist Failure” and sometimes when I start the truck there are no power brakes. But just like the power steering, I wait 20 minutes and it’s all good. I’m going to the dealership on Monday.

If I can remember them all, I was getting service esc, low power mode, something about steering assist, something about brakes (then brake light would come on), there were several lights. And it seemed like when it would do it, the truck would almost slam into low gear when coming to a stop, almost like someone hit me. I hope they find your issue, I would hope by '22 they would have the wiring issue figured out, but maybe not. I found 4 wires cut, 3 almost in half about 6”-8” away from the ecm. I forget the code numbers but it seemed like they all had to do with the ecm losing communication with the bcm and the tcm.

FINALLY found the issue with mine!! 👍After 2 weeks at dealer with tech pulling his hair out.
I had a 4WP lift kit that the previous owner had installed with 35s.
Talking to them describing what was going on the mechanic wondered if an inline speedo recalibrator was installed on the build?
Sure as H it was!!!! And they had issues with them back a few years!!!!🤦‍♂️
Gm Tech dug it out from up underneath behind cluster.Pulled it out re attached factory harness connection and WAALAAAH !!!! Good to go no wacky warning dings!!!👍
Drives like new!!
Hypertech speedocal defective POS!!!!🤬
GM Customer Assistance was EXCELLENT working with me and the dealer!!! Got hold of them through Instagram.
Would NEVER have found that without the guys from now TotalOffroad aka 4WP !!
Make sure there are NO added extra electrical addons that may be causing all these electrical issues.
Start there first if you do!!
So far so good.........:)

I'm having this same issue on my 24 Silverado EV. I'm getting the warning "Service power steering, assist will end soon " however it's been on for a month and the assist hasn't ended. It drives fine, no other issues or warnings. It's at 2k miles. Going to take it to the dealership for the 5 th time. It's amazing that GM released a truck that no one knows how to fix.

Happened to me this am…Service Power steering and Service ESC. 2020 Trail Boss LT 65k miles, new to me as of a month ago. This thread saved me some serious headache. I turned off the truck, hit Google when it happened and found this thread. I restarted the truck in about 20 and it was gone…
Has anyone had this happen more than once?? Or is it a one and done🤞🏻
